So I'm an old Battletech player and still indulge, but when I discovered Alpha Strike, it was love at first sight! Now finally I could run a whole battalion of mechs! So what about you? A) Nothing can replace Battletech for me. B) I love both Battletech and Alpha Strike C) I now play mostly Alpha Strike D) I prefer other mech games E) Mechs are silly |

To me, Alpha Strike is a good game if you have a couple of hours. Battletech is good if you have a couple of days. |

I have played BT very little since the 80's. I liked the world, but never cared for the rules. I was excited about AS, but wasn't satisfied with it, either. I am even now working on a mod that borrows from both, with compexity in the miiddle. As I am really only interested in the Succession War Era, it shouldn't be to big a task. Still, if I wouldn't mind playing AS, though I would really hope we'd be using the varable damage rule. I hated fixed damage in BT, but in AS, where even medium mechs have only a few bubbles of armor, hits can be too deadly (not to mention too predictable). |

B. Very much B. I play both a fair bit. They scratch different itches. Alpha Strike is great when I want to do a big battle, or a big grinder with lots of players. Battletech is great when I want just a handful of stompy mechs, or a grinder with less players. |

I'm looking forward to picking up decals and 1/300 planes, more modern micro armor, and Hind Commander if that's there. We're in the roadrage game that sounds like a new genre to start up. We'll probably get into more games this year than last. I may have some time to do some volunteer work. |

C and D. I like the BT universe (I have several shelves full of BT novels and books), but not the "Classic Battletech" game. It has it's fans, but I find it clunky, slow and generally un-fun On the other hand, Alpha Strike lets me play medium sized battles in a reasonable amount of time and since they provide all the cards for download free it's quite a bargain. We used it a few times this year with our rebased mechwarrior clix figures. For Battletech-sized games (around a lance per player) or an arena type of game I prefer the "Mech Attack" ruleset which has all the important BT'ish elements (damage grid, heat, various weapons, etc) but in a much more fun streamlined package. I like to describe it as having 1/10th as many rules and playing in 1/4 the time. I didn't have time this year, but the last couple years I've run a 28mm big-mecha game at LW using Mech Attack and it was a great time. Between Mech Attack and Alpha Strike I've pretty much got my Mech rules covered. |

Got to try a quick Alpha Strike demo at Pax East this weekend — yuppers, that is the way to play Battletech. 3 decades later, we finally have a real fast play version with the classic game elements nicely distilled, yay! |

I would say B but would play C due to you being to put a Regiment worth of Mechs onto the Table and get the game played in a day. |
