Editorials offer a point of view, those held by the editorial board, or ownership/management. Certainly in a moderated online forum there is room for the editor to express his view.
However, the subject matter of these pieces are quite perilous. This is a miniature wargaming forum, and though the subject matter in the lounge and all the message boards often strays from the central topic, do you really want Bill or his his editors to adopt an official opinion on widely debated political and social issues? It think the wide variety of responses to Editor Julia's request would say absolutely not.
It seems to me, and it's just me shooting off my big mouth after a long day, TMP should represent a product-discussion of miniature related topics. It's a branding decision. That is what we do here. Straying from that, or applying the rules inconsistently to this is what gives me heartburn. It isn't that I don't sympathize with Editor Julia, it's that this isn't the forum for that request.
Isn't there the Blue Fez for such discussions? Let it stay there, and if Bill or his employees want to officially state their position on important political and social issues-and can stand the resulting fallout-let that happen there.
