I believe Weasel's point being the most cogent, would prefer to see a discussion about point A what help/funding requests are appropriate and which are not, and who should decide who gets to make such requests membership, viewers, the owner and/or advertisers on this site? Any other discussion usually just does not reflect well on the membership.

Instead of Bill saying 'I know its controversial but I've made the call it's ok' he seems to be twisting things and accusing and going on the attack.

I'm sorry if you think I'm attacking anyone, or twisting the facts. Perhaps if you could be more specific, I could address your concerns.

Black Scorpion19 Apr 2016 3:48 p.m. PST

The whole thing has been blown way out of proportion so i don't think 'he said she said' will help.

In general I'm referring to deleting the original topic then starting a new one and referencing the original which people can no longer read to make their own minds up.
Deleting it was a good idea if this one had never appeared.

Well, Editor Julia removed the original topic because she felt it was offending people, then started this topic to apologize. Do you find fault with her for that?

Black Scorpion19 Apr 2016 4:21 p.m. PST

No Bill.

All I'd like to ask once more as someone who advertises here is please keep this site about miniatures/wargaming and news on those topics.

JasonAfrika19 Apr 2016 4:26 p.m. PST

Wow Bill, you just HATE us TMPers. You will just not let this thing go. I sure wish you were as passionate about updating the technology of this website.

GeoffQRF19 Apr 2016 4:40 p.m. PST

You are twisting it again. Nobody said they were offended by it. Lots of people told you that this was not an appropriate place, because it's a miniatures page.

Good grief! The Miniatures Page! Says it all ready. Not much need for further discussion, unless of course there is some other agenda to be promoted.

Our membership has voted, again and again, in favor of this website being about wargaming and other topics wargamers want to talk about. That's why we have TMP Plus, for example, with boards for science and sports and other subjects, and our sister political site, The Blue Fez.

Wow Bill, you just HATE us TMPers. You will just not let this thing go.

I'm sorry if my answering someone else's question offends you.

Mick the Metalsmith19 Apr 2016 6:59 p.m. PST

Julia iworks here and personal solicitations are fine. Anyone who objects doesn't have to read it. Scroll on past and shut up.

Excuse me if my choice of words was not adequate. Julia said that she was sorry about causing a "big issue" among the membership, so I believe she perceived that some people were offended by her request.

GeoffQRF20 Apr 2016 2:03 a.m. PST

And again you fail to understand that it was not the topic that was not appropriate, but that the miniatures page was not an appropriate forum for such a request. I saw no suggestions or indications that anyone was offended. This is your perception of what you think someone else perceived that other people might have felt…

However QRF will be withdrawing our banner advert with immediate effect as we feel the site is losing its miniatures focus (and in part due to the implications made against me and the company yesterday, and suggestions that my business partner had been consulted which, however much it was meant as a joke, was a falsehood and sought to undermine me personally). We will consider the supporting membership when it comes up for renewal. To be clear, this is not because of the post or the topic, but the way it was handled.

I will, however, remain an active member of the miniatures community here, including participating in discussions and the submission of new releases.

I am still wading through the messages and emails of support, but if anybody wishes to discuss this with me please feel free to email me.

Duly noted. Then the fault lies with me for misunderstanding the purpose and focus of your site.

We respond to what the wargaming community wants.

GeoffQRF20 Apr 2016 6:22 a.m. PST

I did not say my sponsorship could be removed, merely that the banner advert was to be withdrawn.

QRF will be withdrawing our banner advert… We will consider the supporting membership when it comes up for renewal

mrwigglesworth20 Apr 2016 6:23 a.m. PST

Ok let's move on now. Bill I love TMP. Geoff has some fantastic minis and are a good value. Julia, good luck to you with your future.

I'm sorry you feel that such a message was inappropriate. As I have said, I had no objection to it, and similar messages have been made in the past without any objection or complaint.

However QRF will be withdrawing our banner advert with immediate effect…

Taken care of.

Sponsoring Membership is only for advertisers, Geoff.

GeoffQRF20 Apr 2016 6:33 a.m. PST

Sponsoring Membership is only for advertisers, Geoff.

In that case can the existing remainder of the sponsoring account be converted to supporting please.

This is done for the support of community members.

There is no remainder. This was a free benefit of being an advertiser.

Goonfighter20 Apr 2016 11:14 a.m. PST

In order to avoid confusion, disappointment and further threads such as this, perhaps TMP should be renamed TMMP – as in The Mostly Miniatures Page?

Guy Innagorillasuit20 Apr 2016 11:34 a.m. PST

It's pitifully easy to avoid the non-miniatures content on this page. If you're seeing a lot of it, it's probably your own fault.

I would have never known any of this was going on if someone in my club hadn't shared the thread on our Facebook page.

The Beast Rampant20 Apr 2016 11:42 a.m. PST

If this had appeared on the Plus boards to begin with, would it have been an issue?

Goonfighter20 Apr 2016 11:44 a.m. PST

Guy, suggest you press the button marked "irony detector"……..

Mick the Metalsmith20 Apr 2016 1:48 p.m. PST

Julia is a gaming community member, she played some good games at last years bayou wars, gender trans surgery can be life saving if you consider how the lgbt community is more likely to suffer suicide.

The request is no different then putting a jar by the register asking for donations for kid with leukemia. Anyone with a problem with an employee of Bill and a member of the community soliciting, is really being cold

Guy Innagorillasuit20 Apr 2016 2:02 p.m. PST

Goonfighter, my point is that I *chose* to come stare at the train wreck and I'm not complaining about it. I'm afraid that looking down the list of thread titles in TMP Talk I don't see many that look miniatures-related which explains why I rarely, if ever visit TMP talk.

Goonfighter20 Apr 2016 2:26 p.m. PST

And that is what brought me to this travesty of a thread, also, Guy. So we seem to be in agreement. To be honest, I go to LAF for actual wargaming and really only look at TMP to see what the latest furore is over.

Royal Liz20 Apr 2016 3:57 p.m. PST

"Anyone with a problem with an employee of Bill and a member of the community soliciting, is really being cold"

I don't think so. It seems like begging, online begging, but begging none the less. I'd rather not see it on here about anything including a kid with leukemia. I see enough beggars in the real world.

"I don't think so. It seems like begging, online begging, but begging none the less. I'd rather not see it on here about anything including a kid with leukemia. I see enough beggars in the real world."

Really-?

Your level of compassion is overwhelming…

Mick the Metalsmith20 Apr 2016 9:28 p.m. PST

Royal Liz. Just scroll past and yo u won't see it.

Earl of the North21 Apr 2016 1:41 a.m. PST

One point I would make is that there was nothing in the original topic title or its location on the TMP Talk board to suggest it was a request for funding

Personally I looked at it to find out what the request was and only returned to the TMP Talk board later in the day, seeing lots of comments I had a second look and it was the inevitable train wreck I was expecting.

Mick the Metalsmith21 Apr 2016 6:17 a.m. PST

What does that matter? Plenty of posts with bad titles, click once and hit the back button. Reasonable to presume this takes no. More then a second or two. Moaning about the appropriateness wastes far more time.

Earl of the North21 Apr 2016 6:54 a.m. PST

Well claiming people should have just scrolled past it, since nobody knew what an editor wanted is a strange position to take…..personally I just rolled my eyes at the thought of the inevitable train wreck that was bound to follow and closed the topic.

Some people felt the need to point out this is a strange place to try to raise funds for cosmetic surgery and some felt the need to attack people for that position.

I felt, and still do that this a strange place to raise this and its the first time since I joined TMP I've ever seen such a topic…..but its Bill's decision and hopefully the usefullness of this website isn't further diminished by this.

Stepman321 Apr 2016 7:01 a.m. PST

Hey look, it's a guy in a Gorilla Suit! Where did he come from? That's bananas…

Royal Liz21 Apr 2016 1:38 p.m. PST

"Really-?

Your level of compassion is overwhelming…"

Really. There are plenty of other places for that sort of thing. Not here. You just lost a potential customer.

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP21 Apr 2016 2:53 p.m. PST

"There are plenty of other places for that sort of thing. Not here."

Why, because you say so-?

Your comparison of what was asked for to online begging is nonsensical.

"You just lost a potential customer."

Because I disagreed with both your post and it's tone – I've lost nothing.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian21 Apr 2016 2:55 p.m. PST

Really. There are plenty of other places for that sort of thing. Not here

Wouldn't it be better to ask your friends, rather than strangers? Many people here are friends of Editor Julia.

You just lost a potential customer.

Because I let one of my workers ask for help, you won't become a Supporting Member of TMP? That seems disproportionate.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian21 Apr 2016 4:01 p.m. PST

Maybe she will clarify. grin

Leadjunky21 Apr 2016 4:23 p.m. PST

Give us Barabbas! They all shouted.

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP22 Apr 2016 6:21 a.m. PST

Bill: I'm fairly sure she was talking to me; not referring to a membership on TMP.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian22 Apr 2016 11:41 a.m. PST

I sent her a PM, maybe she'll respond…

Royal Liz25 Apr 2016 10:17 a.m. PST

I was referring to Joes Shop. But I don't like the way the advertiser was handled either.
