To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of this war last year I recreated this battle using modified Flames of War – Fate of a Nation – rules. Here are some photos from the third rendition, after scaling it down a bit from the initial games.

The write up and 18 photos are located at:

In order to reflect 2-3 Brigades per side, each Battalion/Regiment was replicated by 6 tanks (1 to 7.5) or 10 infantry bases, 1 stand = 1 or 2 platoons.
There were Division and Brigade commanders to allow rerolls for activation (see below) and morale.

I love fog of war so there were 2 modification to the rules.
First units were initially hidden and moved on blinds. Units were only revealed when they started their turn, moved or fired within line of sight of the enemy (distance based on concealment, foot vs vehicle).
Foot concealed 6", open 18", moving open 36"
Vehicle concealed 12", open 24", moving open 48"

An activation roll had to be made for each unit, each turn. This was used to reflect the confusion rampant in these initial battles. Units were well trained and equipped on both sides but had never conduced combined arms training.

Activation roll 1d6 (Leader present can reroll);
1 is a blunder,
2 is sluggish half move,
3-5 is normal move
6 is energetic double move.

Blunder is 1d6
1 Fratricide make 2 attacks at nearest friendly unit
2 Fall back 2 moves to the rear
3 Move left 1 move
4 move right 1 move
5 Confused and do nothing
6 Assault nearest enemy (double move)

There were also opportunities for Air to attack friendly troops as well.

This presented a fog of war challenge to all players as fate would throw off each sides plan time and again.

Tell me about your infantry figs -I see some peter pig chaps in turbans? What else did you use?

Mostly Battlefront with some Peter Pig. Although I used some Indians, WW II British work well for both sides. Battlefront's Jordanianso provide 120mm Mortars and 106mm Recoilless Jeeps.
The vehicles are mostly Battlefront Arab Israeli or QRF 1945+ line with a few modified like the straight M48s (most available M48 models are actually M48A2s or later).
