Per square foot this is definitely the easiest mat I've yet done. Also the last one for awhile I think. Next step is the figures to go on it.

Very cool project… I just did a 5'X12' in my Garage …

That's really cool! I know all about the black widows in southern california… I have at least 2 to kill every time I head into the garage. They're everywhere!

I think your end result turned out great. The variance in green from sheet to sheet actually makes it look a bit more "natural" to my eye. Good job!

What scale figures are you going to use?

Hi all,
glad you guys like it! I had hoped to partially set it up with terrain and figures yesterday and post some pics but it didn't work out. Maybe tomorrow. Anyways.

Pretty excited a this post put my blog over 20k views. Woo-hoo!

I'm going to use 3mm figures to achieve the ground scale I mention on my blog. That is, 60mm=100m, 1'=500m, 2'=1km. The full 20' mat gives me 10km of frontage and the 6' gives 3km of depth. I can snag the basic area of most battlefields with that much terrain to work with. My 3mm battalions are based on 20mm x 10mm bases, three per standard French battalion, which lets me have correct frontage in column for reserved masses and the like. Between the huge table and my small units I'll be able to show entire battles with proper ground scale, so that not only tactical but large scale formations can be utilized without base depth limitations deforming the battle space. Even my artillery batteries will cover the correct foot print.

Now, all that said, anyone who balks at 3mm could easily do the exact same thing at 6mm, but with less figs and for more $. USD The key is the 60mm frontage battalion, IMHO. Anything bigger than that and table width becomes limiting due to artillery ranges.

Nicely done.

Quick question, did you use an airbrush to paint the roads?

forwardmarchstudios20 Apr 2016 9:05 a.m. PST

138- thanks! The roads are hand-brushed on. Every time I've bought an air brush it was a cheap one and it ended up a disaster.

I'll have some pics of complete terrain set-ups tomorrow.
