I'm building up French for the battles of La Vigie and Cuddalore. I've been able to find on the internet all the relevant French flags for their infantry units, except for the Guadeloupe and Bourbon (colonial) regiments. Can anyone provide images, or even educated guesses? Any help appreciated because flags really do make the units "pop"! |

As a slight tangent, I have been trying for some time to find out about the headgear of French troops at La Vigie in 1778. I posted here last year- TMP link - but without much luck. Do you have any information about white hat plumes worn by any of the French force at St Lucia? All information appreciated. |

unfortunately it is not a surprise 6 regimentals flags of these 8 colonial regiments are unknown like Guadeloupe and, not the Regiment of Bourbon (metropolitan) but, the Regiment of "Ile" Bourbon (today La Réunion) |

If you want to give them flags, here are some very colorful and probably incorrect flags for the FIW Compagnie Franche de la Marine. Pure speculation and probably wrong but they sure are pretty.

I just realized something : Regiment of Isle-Bourbon during the American War of Independence?? But this regiment didn't exist, it was disbanded before, in january 1775, merged with Ile-de-France, and reformed after in 1784 to be disbanded definitively in 1789. The former Legion of same name and garrison (1766-1772) had a blue fleur-de-lysed flag with white crown and crossed anchors. There were only 214 "VOLONTAIRES DE BOURBON" in 2 companies raised, nothing to do with (metropolitan) BOURBON or (colonial) ILE BOURBON Regiments, 174 "Volunteers of Bourbon" fought aboard the gabare "les Bons Amis" against the british frigate "Sea Horse" during the journey leading them to India in december 1781 where they stayed 2 years, both volunteers companies forming an other different corps than Bourbon regiments |
