Some great looking games! Thanks for posting.
Salute is on my bucket list, but it's a trek from Western Canada.

Good work Eric, thanks for sharing. Having recently emigrated from UK to USA this may be the only way I'll ever see Salute again.

Cheers, RC.

Can't afford to go there. So many thanks!

Eclaireur16 Apr 2016 2:02 p.m. PST

Nice pics – well done Eric!
The stand out games for me were the Seven Years War German one and the Russo-Finnish war. They were actually pretty close to each other, along with that Antietam game.
The standard of games seemed better to me than last year, lots of people and lots of traders. Only downside is a sense that more and more it's becoming a fantasy miniatures event rather than a historical one – nb on the traders' side.

Great shots, thanks for sharing with those of us who couldn't be there.

Musketier16 Apr 2016 2:11 p.m. PST

Thank you for sharing this picture report! I for one find lots of inspiration in it, from/for games both big and small, as well as to try and make it to the show next year…

Musketier16 Apr 2016 2:12 p.m. PST

So, when's Salute 2017 ?

Captain dEwell16 Apr 2016 2:33 p.m. PST

I very much appreciate you posting your photographs. There is much to ponder over. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing, still lots of large Historical games to inspire me there but I suspect that smaller games are the trend these days.

I'll have to do this one year – as you have photos of two or three really nice looking games that I just don't think I saw at all. This has happened to me before – so a methodical game by game approach would prevent this !

Very good Eric
Thanks so much for the pics

Ec, that's what we thought too, lots of sci-if and fantasy, bit light on historical. That being said, the historical side was rescued by Bill Gaskins SYW game, the 40mm Napoleonic game was good and the Russo Finnish war too.

Timmo uk17 Apr 2016 4:16 a.m. PST

As noted elsewhere Bill Gaskin's SYW game should have won best in the show as it was head and shoulders above anything else.

Thanks for the photos! I was there but missed several of the better-looking games. Very light on historical, I thought, and quite a few games were only dioramas which is always a pity.

Olive Rudge17 Apr 2016 4:25 a.m. PST

Stan was shocked that the SYW was not best of show .
As others have said it was a mile a head .

EricThe Shed17 Apr 2016 4:51 a.m. PST

Who won ??

Thanks for all the great comments here and on the blog…

If anybody wants to use the photos please feel free to do so…

jeffreyw317 Apr 2016 8:16 a.m. PST

Ian Smith's game won Best of Show.

Cambria562217 Apr 2016 9:26 a.m. PST

Which game was Ian Smith's?

dwight shrute17 Apr 2016 12:08 p.m. PST

superb pics as ever Mr Shed !

40 mm Battle of Adrodas -- Napoleonic

Cambria562217 Apr 2016 3:31 p.m. PST

Ah, that was also a fantastic looking game, even if the rifles officer had blonde hair.

Lord Elpass17 Apr 2016 3:59 p.m. PST

I think if I'd paid out the sort of money messrs Gaskin and Smith have on painted figures, buildings and terrain I'd expect to win best of show. Spectacular games.

Moe the Great18 Apr 2016 4:42 a.m. PST

I've added "going to Salute" to my bucket list.

You can't go wrong choosing between the Gaskin SYW and the Ian Smith 40mm Peninsula games for best in show. Both looked to be superb.

IMHO, they should simply get rid of "best of show" awards at wargame shows. They serve no useful purpose.
