Were there any West German military assigned to Berlin in 1965 that would have assisted the US Berlin Brigade in the event hostilities broke out?

No, the Bundeswehr was not permitted, by treaty limitation, to station or raise any units in West Berlin. The garrison was strictly limited to British, US and French brigades.

If you include the Brits, you get to camouflage vehicles like this (though possibly not as early as 1965):

Don't the Germans have a lot of Federal Border Police paramilitary troops available?

They're called Bundesgrenschutz, but I don't know if they'd have been permitted in Berlin either.

They did patrol the inter-German border.

Berlin was considered to be still "occupied" by the four main WW2 Allies (Britain, France, Russia and the United States). That is why you had East Berlin (Russian) and West Berlin which was held by the other three. Spandau Prison was used to hold war criminals and all four powers provided oversight for the prison and all had to be in agreement for any prisoner to be released. IIRC the Germans were allowed to only have a police force. In the US sector there was a dedicated military unit that had the responsibility to patrol the city border. They used gun jeeps. I imagine the French and British did something similar.

there were civil police in both east and west Berlin..Google checkpoint Charlie and you will see the police of both sides standing between and amongst the russians and US..

West Berlin was occuppied by thousand of vagabond draft dodgers, who were avoiding getting conscripted.

Do they count as 'for' or 'against'?
