I have been on a bit of a nostalgia kick recently. One of the very first miniature wargames that I ever played was Epic Space Marine. I decided to get back into it recently with my favorite army: Squats!
These are my first stands of my NetEpic army: a detachment of Squat Thudd Guns. They were a lot of fun to paint. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed painting small scale miniatures.
I went for a classic, retro look with them and a simple paint job using Reaper MSP HD paints and Vallejo Air Metallics. I'm pleased with the results… especially with the basing grit size and the Silflorettes Moss Pads. There are more pictures back on my blog. link Comments are always welcome! |

Gorgeous work. I'm really tempted to break into Epic, though I don't think there's a community in my area. |

Louie N, Markconz & C. Walrus – Thank you very much! I appreciate the kudos. G. Bumpus – You should go for it! After I showed my Thudd Guns to a friend of mine he decided to grab some Eldar and paint them up, so maybe you just need to paint a few units to get people around you interested. Enthusiasm is infectious! Here is another picture!
I think that the one thing that really makes these models pop is drilling out the gun barrels. After I did that early step I had a feeling that they would look good when they were done. Thanks again for reading and commenting! There are more details about other Epic topics on my blog. Feel free to visit! SquadPainter Blog - Jeff |

Sean68333 – Hey, thanks for the comment! I like Epic miniatures as well. There are so many different ways to paint them. I am currently about halfway done with a unit of 10 Squat Warriors. I'll post pictures of them when I am done. - Jeff squadpainter.blogspot.com |

Thanks, Legion 4! The painting was pretty straightforward. The blue was a base color – ink wash – drybrush highlight. Then I added in the details with black and dotted in their final colors on top of the black. When I first tried to do small scale 6mm Napoleonics, my color choices were too dark and muddy. Now I try to make my small figures pop on the table by using bright colors and ensuring that the black basecoat shows through to line everything. Sometimes it looks a little over-the-top when magnified in photos, but when they are seen in person it produces a nice effect. Thanks again for the kudos! - Jeff squadpainter.blogspot.com |
