Of possible interest, this plastic castle fortification from yesteryear, found on The Duchy of Tradgarland blogsite. Much respect.
Who made it, what was it called, who had one, who has one? I don't think I owned one but I remember having access to one. Great fun. tradgardland.blogspot.qa |

Looks like German Elastolin to me. |

Yes, Elastolin. I had a smaller one many years ago. |

Yeah, I still have mine too although it's much darker. Must have been a shift change between dry brushing crews. |

My castle – very similar to the one in the first post – still has its box – it isn't Elastolin, but it is of a similar style to the Elastolin and Hausser castles, though rather smaller in scale. These things are regularly listed on eBay and elsewhere as Elastolin and they really aren't – these were made by Eberlein, of Neumarkt, Bavaria, under the brand name ECO. Eberlein were a plastics manufacturer, not a toy company – in fact I believe they are still in operation – they make plastic gutters and similar. The example in the picture is a nice clean one – very nice. They are not so common these days, probably because they are tricky to store and the moulding tends to split under duress! |

I too had the castle in the first post. Got regularly used by my Airfix figures when I was kid. I remember using it for a Napoleonic siege and pretending it was Colditz for WW2. |

Pretty cool to use it for Colditz. Excellent idea. |

My brother and I were given a large Marx castle for Christmas. It came with a large plastic base which had a moat that went all the way around the castle and you could put water in it, which we did once. It came with Knights and Vikings and a catapult with little plastic rocks. The draw bridge worked and there was chain and a crank that worked the draw bridge. My mother said she would get even with my Uncle that gave it to us. I have no idea what happened to it. I have looked around on the internet but can only find the figures, the catapult w/ammo and castles. But no base. Anyone else ever have one? |

I always wanted the Elastolin Castle, the old Polk's Hobby Store on 5th AVE in NYC had it and I used to dream about it. The one that they had even had a secret "entrance". I had a few very small plastic castles when I was growing up but my favorite was the old Airfix Castle from the Robin Hood set. |

Hi mashrewba (it's been a while), great input. Thanks. I had that very castle, thanks for identifying it. A great thing about it was one could join the semi-towers together to make a complete round tower, or two. Cheers |
