If you were a fanboy, which miniature wargaming companies would you be a fanboy of?

Private Matter12 Apr 2016 11:40 a.m. PST

Too Fat Lardies: I haven't played anything they've done that I didn't like.

Mako1112 Apr 2016 11:41 a.m. PST

GZG, Essex, Tumbling Dice, Pico, Takara, F-Toys, CinC (now sold by Pfc.)….

Hope to be for Perry as well, when I can afford their Agincourt, WOTR, Italian Wars, and Samurai ranges.

David Manley's naval rules – Action Stations and Bulldogs Away.

Navwar, for GQ1 and GQ2.

Geoff, at QRF for Duel of Eagles and Clash of Sabres.

GZG for Full Thrust and More Thrust.

Royal Liz12 Apr 2016 11:43 a.m. PST

If you asked a couple of months ago I'd say Privateer Press but I sold off all of my stuff from them to get into Age of Sigmar. I'm not to the point of being a GW fangirl yet but I'm getting close.

Grignotage12 Apr 2016 11:45 a.m. PST

The air combat game Check Your Six!, which I always find myself gushing about.

Also for Ivan Sorensen's various Nordic Weasel games, especially No End In Sight/No Stars in Sight.*

*I'll be waiting at the seedy convenience store on the corner of 5th and Main for my kickback, Ivan

Nobody.

I like Warrior. And Navwar. And Garrisson (!).

And HaT and Zvezda and Casear and Dark Alliance and Red Box and quite a few others.

But "Fan boy" ? It's just not me.

Fanboy? Hahahahahaha! NO!

That dismissed, these are my wishlist sources:

Oddzial Osmy 3mm
Rebel Minis 15mm/18mm
Khurasan 15mm/18mm
Splintered Light 15mm/18mm
Tumbling Dice 3mm
GZG 15mm/18mm

Maybe Baccus if I cannot find some things in 3mm

Liking what I see online from Battle Valor miniatures but ask me after I receive an order…

Andy Skinner Supporting Member of TMP12 Apr 2016 12:42 p.m. PST

I'd have said Zombiesmith, but I haven't gotten into their other projects, and have made myself stick to one scale (15mm), though I love the 28mm figures even more.

Still toying with 6mm conversion of some boardgames, though.

I keep returning to Alternative Armies. I've been a follower of theirs for over ten years and keep being tempted back.

No one. Fanboys are, in my humble opinion, non critical sycophants who do nothing to engender progress in the hobby but who instead are prepared to lap up any old tat thrown out my the object of their love and for whom they are only too happy to make any excuse for any error, duff product or otherwise cruddy output.

I would need surprised if many here really identified themselves as fanboys.

I have enjoyed carrying Battlehonors/Quality Cast/Old Glory15/ Black Raven Foundry/Rank & File which are all the same company.
I also carried Stone Mountain for over a decade an enjoyed it as well.

Field of Battle by Brent Oman. In my humble opinion this is one of the sets of rules that folks will be discussing 20 years from now. They have changed how players both play and recreate battles on the tabletop at the unit equals a Battalion level. They are my buddies and mine holy grail of rule sets.

1/72 Plastics in general.

Heritage Lord of the Rings range along with some of the Custom Cast LOTR figs.

Heritage 15mm Ancients.

Ral Partha figs in general.

I'm sure there are some others I did not mention.

I am not so much of a fanboy as I am just very impressed and a fan of these things.

Thanks,

John

"Fanboy" is a strong word, and like Mr. Manley said…but I'll play along.

Of Currently operating companies in their current state of being, I suppose Splintered Light & Alternative Armies.

Of expired companies, Grenadier, Heritage, and Target Games.

But the only one I was ever *truly* a fanboy of was 20th century Citadel/GW.

BigNickR12 Apr 2016 9:36 p.m. PST

Figures? Hasslefree & Reaper

Rules? maybe the guys that do infinity?

(I love their figures too, but they sure are expensive)

I kinda like mantic too, but not enough to gush over.

Still some of the best figures around.

I also quite like Warbases and WRG wink

I'd characterize "fanboy" as "will buy without further reading", so that's Toofatlardies and Twohourwargames.

Mini's I'd say Peter Pig and Picoarmour but there's really too many good ones to choose.

Perry Miniatures historicals/old fantasy

Games Workshop (since forever)

Northstar Miniatures (more recently because of Frostgrave)

Scibor (Amazing resin minis that I can't afford but love to stare at on their website!)

Otherworld Miniatures (Best miniatures homage to classic D & D I've seen to date. Buying and seeing one pack up close and in person of their dungeon hirelings was enough to make me fall head over heels!)

*Ral Partha/Iron Wind Metals for their 3-stage series and relaunched Chaos Wars line.
*Crusader Miniatures for the Late Crusades line: When you say 'Medieval' this is what I see in my head…

Bashytubits21 Apr 2016 4:51 p.m. PST

I am no one's fanboy, but there are certainly companies that give prompt courteous service have good quality miniatures, actually bother to communicate with me the customer and so have earned my patronage. Companies like
Old Glory USA, Pico Armor, GHQ, Northstar Miniatures, Perry miniatures, The Warstore, FRP games, NWS online, Baccus miniatures, Adler miniatures. Every one of these companies I have dealt with on numerous occasions over the years and I feel are worthy of mention to anyone who wants decent service and quality merchandise.
