I've got a good many of those but I think Harvest will always be my favorite. |

It is difficult to choose between Harvest, After the Gold Rush and Rust Never Sleeps. So I won´t. And yeah, if we are going to throw in compilations, then Decade for sure. |
ubercommando | 12 Apr 2016 6:32 a.m. PST |
Harvest. Decade may be one of the best "best of" albums of all time. |

Where's the choice for "I can't stand Neil Young"? I can't stand anything about him. His voice, his politics, his air of superiority, his sneering condescension towards inferior Americans…. Don't get me started on that loathsome toad. I agree with Lynyrd Skynyrd. |

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969) After the Gold Rush (1970) Harvest (1972) Long May You Run (1976) Comes a Time (1978) Rust Never Sleeps (1979) Harvest Moon (1992) Can't decide. These are all good. And yeah I prefer Stills as well. |

I agree with Lynyrd Skynyrd. You know that the "feud" was a put on ? I can't stand anything about him. His voice, Sigh…like Dylan, Ol' Neil has many voices. He can sing sweet like a bird when he wants to…. Anyway - Hard to pick between After the Gold Rush, Everybody knows… , and On The Beach (Revolution Blues may be his greatest song…IMHO). I also like Greendale (really!) and Chrome Dreams II (Ordinary People is, literally, an epic). |

Well let's see the lads of Lynyrd Skynyrd really only had three hit songs while Neil Young…well it is hard to keep count. Of course truth often hurts and Young's "Alabama" hits right on the mark. The best Skynyrd can come back with in "Sweet Home Alabama" is …"Southern man don't need him around anyhow." Yea that was showing Neil Young. Only time will tell but I think most of Lynyrd Skynyrd's music will fade into obscurity if not all but forgotten with the exception of perhaps "Freebird" which is a song about a man who cannot commit and engages in love 'em and leave 'em relationships and considers this a triumph of character. Neil Young's music has depth, poetry, holds a dark mirror to our society and is often profound. Young draws on such influences as Woody and Arlo Guthrie as well as the pantheon of great Blues artists. |

I'm with Winston Smith on this. Could never stand the guy. |

From the first song by him I ever heard, it was all about sneering. Not unlike "that thread" on Frothers. I heard CSNY sing Southern Cross, a beautiful song ruined by his screeching. Good thing there are other YouTube recordings without him. Poetry? "This is a song about Johnnie Rotten." And the song isn't "Alabama". It's "Southern Man". It's all about how, being Canadian, he is superior to everyone in that region. Oh Lord, I thank Thee that I am not like the rest of men, these southerners. Ptui. There is absolutely nothing to like about Mister Young. He is an automatic "change the radio station" singer for me, no matter the song. |

Man, so many good albums. Harvest, After the Gold Rush, Ragged Glory, ugh. Just looking at the collection of recorded works is so impressive. How many bands or performers have this kind of catalogue? The old Decade-debate starts again. Is it a compilation? Or something else since it has tracks on it that were not officially on other albums. I still think of it as a compilation/best-of so it shouldn't count. |

The one about something and the horse he rode in on. I'm with the OFM on the need for another option. There are very few artists for which I have an active dislike. This is one of mine. I don't begrudge anyone enjoyment based on my feelings (nor do I care if someone begrudges me appreciation of any artist I actively like). Rock on. |

Sorry Winston, yes you are correct the title of the song is "Southern Man" and still poignant. |

Neil Young is a condescending gong farmer. His singing sounds like a cat being castrated. |

My all time favourite singer. Hard to choose best album, probably Harvest, but I often play Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere, Harvest Moon and Time Fades Away. I also like the MirrorBall album, not everyone's cup of tea. Not so keen on some of the techno stuff he produced in the '80s. Never realised some of you Yanks were so sensitive to criticism of your "wonderful country". |

Harvest. And the legendary album touted by Frank Zappa of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young fighting in the dressing room of the Fillmore East. |

After the Gold Rush Decade Hawks and Doves Re-ac-tor Trans Time Fades Away I guess this dates me. For what it's worth, I don't have Neil Young on a pedestal. I'm pretty sure that he and I don't agree about some things. I still like the music of his that I happen to know. |

A talented songwriter and disappointing vocalist. I would say he is the Canadian Bob Dylan, but that is Leonard Cohen. I am offended by his epilepsy. |

Decade doesn't count, it's an anthology. Neil Young is brilliant, though likely not everybody's cup of tea. And his body of work is amazing, like Dylan's. I'd say my favorites are: Harvest Everybody Knows this is Nowhere After the Gold Rush Harvest Moon Also love Live at Massey Hall, the live version of what would become Harvest. 'Course I only listen on vinyl |

And his body of work is amazing, like Dylan's. It is…but he has more clunkers than Dylan IMHO, with a terrible streak of awful albums in the 1980s, whereas Infidels, and Oh Mercy if nothing else (and I would argue for a lot more!), hold up well for Dylan. |

I also really like his "Decades" double CD. Don't forget his occasional work with CSN. |

Apart from Deja Vu (and that is a big exclusion – "apart from one of the finest albums ever made" ) and the OHIO single, and the live albums (4-way street is great, Live 74 is superb) I don't really rate CSN&Y so highly. Just my opinion. |
