Its official…

BOTH GQ1 and GQ2 are now available from Navwar. Price is the same as before (5.50 GBP) and can be ordered directly from Navwar. Here's the link:

So… If you've been looking for GQ1 or GQ2 or both, now is the time to buy.

Excellent news!

I recommend them both.

Good news:)

…And someone on the GQ Yahoo Group was adamant this wouldn't happen! But good news indeed.

Texas Jack12 Apr 2016 5:17 a.m. PST

A lot of people on the Yahoo group were adamant. It is great Tony has decided to put GQ2 back in print, they are wonderful rules!

HobbyGuy12 Apr 2016 7:59 a.m. PST

Have you guys joined the "Adamant Yahoo Group"? Great fun.

Texas Jack12 Apr 2016 8:16 a.m. PST

I think it would be something like the ultramodern here!

BattleCaptain12 Apr 2016 10:58 a.m. PST

It's a pity they don't use Paypal.

Hopefully this is the case, and not a late April Fool's joke. I'll check with them this Saturday to confirm. I bought 4 GQ-1s from him a few months ago. Now I need to buy 4 GQ-2s to go with them. :-)

No April's Fool joke (unless Tony at Navwar is into that sort of thing). Both are in stock. That was confirmed straight from Tony.

It's a pity they don't use Paypal.

Navwar (Tony) only uses the website to park his catalog. He has no e-commerce capacity, not even email. Its all very 1980s….

colkitto13 Apr 2016 1:23 p.m. PST

Really pleased to hear this. I hope Tony is feeling the love …

Drat. I was all for ordering them, even considering the postage to Canada, but the need to do a trans-continental fax kills it for me.

Here's hoping one day these end up on Wargame Vault.

If you're worried about the cost of the call, use one of the free online fax services – you pay zero and they retry multiple times to make it succeed, if necessary.

If you're worried about the security… well, good for you, I have no consolations on that score. Fax is marginally more secure than snail mail, but it sure ain't encryption. My main protection in those cases is to use a secondary credit card, so I can keep an eye on it and cancel it without regret if necessary.

You don't have to fax the form to Navwar. After you've printed out the form (you have to to enter your name, address and payment info). You can just as easily drop it in an envelope and mail it to Tony. That's what I've done in the past (didn't want to hassle with finding a fax machine, even an online one). Yes, it very old school, but it works just as well…

Here's hoping one day these end up on Wargame Vault.

That will never happen. Neither Tony nor the author will consider it.

People planning to play GQ2 would be well served to investigate David Manley's house rule modifications.

Also, a local house rule change our group found satisfying was to alter the speed reduction formula from a linear to square root basis.

For example, instead of 20-16-12-8-4, we would use 20-18-16-13-9.

As a follow on to Blutarski's excellent suggestion re: David Manley's mods to the speed reduction formula, here's the Naval Wargames Society's resource page on GQ1 and GQ2:

David's house rules are about halfway down.

A lot of good stuff on this site. But be warned, some of these links may be dead (its a rather old page). A particular favorite of mine is the "Think In Oceans, Shoot On Sight" page; takes GQ2 back to the pre-dreadnought period.

For my order, I printed out the order form, filled it out, and mailed it via USPS. I even hand-decorated the envelope borders with red and blue stripes (…).

Hmmm, thanks for the suggestion for snail mailing in the order gents. Hadn't even occurred to me.

Tim White06 May 2016 8:44 a.m. PST

Okay, I guess my snail mail order made it across the big pond, because they've charged my credit card. Hoping to get this one before May 29th, so we can partake in a bit of WW1 naval action!

Tim White01 Jun 2016 9:38 a.m. PST

Yes, my GQ1&2 finally arrived. Not in time for Jutland, but happy none the less. Some serious old school goodness.
