Those minis look like some old school 25's. I read the blog and didn't see any mention of the brand and scale.

@davbenbak, the Russian figures are 28mm Elite miniatures from the scenario creator's collection. The French figures are 28mm Front Rank and the Austrians are a mix of old school 25mm Hinchcliffe and Minifigs.
