Noticed this on the best seller list this weekend. Looks interesting and has decent reviews. Ordered one for my self.

Keep us posted how it is. Looks like an interesting premise.

The SCW was very complex. The only books that seem to be available in English are those written by Americans or British that served in the International Brigades. I've already read plenty of those.

From what I've understood from my friend in Spain, its only in the last few years that it has really begun to be examined in a neutral fashion by Spanish historians.

I imagine it'll be a few more years before that stuff starts getting translated and made more widely available.

I have read nothing yet on the SCW, I do have a couple books in the wings but looking forward to learning about the period. It is interesting how passions still ignite over it.

from the introduction/presentation of the book appearing on Amazon "Spanish Civil War, told through a dozen characters, including Ernest Hemingway and George Orwell: a tale of idealism, heartbreaking suffering, and a noble cause that failed"….
so it seems that your impression that " only in the last few years that it has really begun to be examined in a neutral fashion by Spanish historians" …being the author certainly a non spanish…that "neutral" approach doe'snt yet exist in many if not all US/GB ecc…historians that still follow to fraudolenly describe an attempt to save and perpetuate a criminal comunist Régime backed by Comintern as something "idealistic" …i really hope that you're true and, contrary to that book let us imagine , Spanish historians have really began to follow the truth

Looking forward to more neutral and factual books but, with todays journalism I doubt if I we ever read one.

There is one book I have "Images of the Spanish Civil War" by Allen and Unwin is neutral but has more images than text.

those ones are goods
to understand Caudillo personality is important..strongly anti nationalist book but the description of Franco personality is very interesting…except the cause of the Levantamient that, due to the particular situation, was, in my opinion, a necessity..the personality of the main man was, contrary to the other generals, a of very small and bad person
uwpress.wisc.edu/books/4860.htm
while this one, well documented and that i just finish to read, appear to be a must to understand something which is always neglected..the reason why…
