Folks, planning on painting up one or two M4s and M5s to support some 28mm 29th Infantry Division guys on the tabletop. I've done some basic browsing, read their Normandy AAR and Googled for pictures. From what I can see their Shermans seem to be a mixture of cast and welded hull M4A1s in the first weeks after DDay. Does that seem right or did they not usually mix these types within a battalion? Would there be M4A3s too? And what about the M5 Stuart marks? If anyone can direct me to a good table of organisation and equipment for independent US tank battalions in 1944 I would also be obliged, EC |

the m4 and m4a1 is identical except the hull shape, same engine, gearbox and running gear so not a problem for the logistics |

M4A3s didn't appear until after the Breakout from Normandy. And just as an aside, all M4A1s were cast Hull, welded Hulls would have been M4s. As mentioned above they had the same engine making logistics simple. The M4A3 had a different engine. |
