Today, the usual suspects (myself, Bashytubits, and Mike) had the first game of our Frostgrave campaign. Bashytubits brought his melee-centric Ogres 'n Orcs Enchanter warband, Mike had his Human Enchanter warband, and I had a Goblin Summoner warband. Bashy won the game wirh four treasure tokens, Mike was a second with three, and I barely scraped out two with having list both my Wizard and Apprentice (both will fully recover, but both have to miss the next game.) I took pictures.
This is my warband, a Goblin Wizard, an Orc Apprentice, 3 Goblins-at-Arms, and 3 Thugs. Only the Thugs made it through the game intact.
This is our lovely ruined city. Very snowy.
I managed to summon a Greater Demon on my first turn… all of my demon models are ice-themed dragons.
Oh my, would you look at that. I pick up a treasure token, and a bear wanders onto my board edge. Between that and my Apprentice dying rather suddenly, my plans took a turn for the worse… And then I forgot to take more pictures. Because there are only three of us, we will each be running three warbands. We each need to play all three of our warbands before we play one a second time. And so on. That's all for now! |

Ya know, the more I look at my Wizard's ice hair, the less I like it. I think I will repaint it black to match the rest of the goblins. |

Before you go all black, give her hair a good black ink, then dry brush white over it, after the ink dries. See if that works for you. |

Wait wait a dark blue ink wash not black !!! As kyoteblue writes above, a blue wash followed by a white drybrush will make it look icy. I've done that with Rasputina (a high priestess of an Elder god of winter) and a few other ice-themed figures. However, you can also use the psychology of color and use a green ink on your goblin mage's hair with the a white drybrush after. By the book, one is supposed to shade with a darker shade of the base color, in this case, gray. If you shade with blue instead, that will give a figure a "squeaky clean" look, usually best for paladins and such. Shading with green gives a diseased or corrupt feel, more appropriate for evil figures and necromancers. |

Congrats on completing your first campaign game! Sound like the typical mix of mayhem and misfortune! :) I look forward to the next report! So will you wiz and appren get to heal while your next warband fights? Or will your gobo band be minus their leaders the next time the goblins cycle around? |

Both the Wizard abd Apprentice will have to miss the next game… so with my small influx of wealth, I hired a Sellsword to lead the warband in their absence. I could have spent the 100 gc on a speedy recovery for one of them, but I really do want a captain in the warband as well… I think their next game will involve pouncing on the nearest treasure token as a group and escaping with it… |

Well our campaign has started with a bang. Punkrabbit rolled a 20 on his first cast and "poof" there is a Major Demon lurching around.
I had a problem getting my digital camera to focus but I wanted to get a shot of something really dramatic being summoned into our game.
The calm before the mad treasure dash begins. Another seemingly peaceful day in the ruins of Frostgrave.
Oh look a Bear is upset you are messing with that treasure token.
Bashytubits apprentice BonkSHEra has followed up on Punkrabbits apprentice by successfully casting poison dart, following up the next turn with elemental ball. The magical energy connects! Ouch, a 20 is rolled and the poor Goblin apprentice sizzles in the snow. The archers had previously pincushioned the mean looking major demon and taken it down, phew!
The sneaky humans have grabbed all the loot in sight and are making feet for their hideout. The orcs are saying come back we want a fight!
Since the humans have bugged out, Bashytubits cleaves a goblin man at arms and his orcs make short work of their goblin foes and chase after them. You can see the bear in the upper part of the picture chasing a heroic goblin who was kiting the bear to save the others in the party from being mauled, what a guy!
Chasing after goblins, who knew they were such good runners? Darn, come back goblins we want to play! The orcish lackeys return triumphantly to base and drink deeply of whatever the heck orcs drink these days. The end. |
