Anyone know how QRF Post war German compare to Khurasan 70's soviet is size? |
Extra Crispy | 09 Apr 2016 10:37 a.m. PST |
QRF infantry are "true" 15s mostly, so f Khurasan are really 15 they'll mix well. But if Khurasan are "big 15s" aka 18mm, perhaps not. That said, I mix 15 and 18 all over the place all the time. Honestly, once they hit the table top you can't tell. |

The QRF moderns are all about 17mm from sole to tin hat. I don't have any of Khurusans |

Nothing to get my panties in a twist Anton but maybe I should have said "where else would you get them looking this good" ;D |

Khurasan is noticeably taller than QRF. QRF matches well with most other ranges out there though, and they have a nice set of poses. |

I never quite understand how they can still be 15mm if they are bigger – ours are already 17mm. Any bigger and they would appear to be nearer to 20mm than 15mm. I have some Peter a Pig figures and usually use those for a visual "do those look ok together" when I am sculpting. I had some Irregular Soviets and some MJ Afghans, which were very tall |

Nobody ever wants to admit that the size has crept up :-) It's like how we had to invent "28mm" because the "25mm" figures from GW and Warzone etc. were visibly much bigger. And now they're even bigger than that. For what it's worth, the Minifigs/PP/QRF/Command Decision size is what a 15mm should look like "proper" as far as I'm concerned. (dunno if minifigs are still about, I have some of their ww1 figures)
I was surprised when I bought some Eureka figures which were supposed to be "18mm" but they are actually on the smaller size. Madness I tell you. |

Given the size of current US troops, 18mm+ at 1/100 scale is probably about right… |
GeoffQRF | 11 Apr 2016 11:55 p.m. PST |
1/100 would be 18mm for a 6ft figure. 6ft = 1828mm. By the time you add boots (another half inch) and a helmet (a couple more inches) you would be looking at figures between about 17mm and 19mm. This is why 15mm is actually smaller that 1/100. We use 1/100 scale for vehicles because it is easy to scale, and because it helps to account for the fact that infantry are cast on bases, so already raised by 1-2mm. However vehicles should never be bigger than this (being already effectively 18mm), otherwise they would actually be nearer to 20mm. |

…following the logic of this very old y chesnut, …then what's "20mm" which only lately been popularish to describe collections of what used to be known as "1/72" (or 1/76) models. ? Using the same maths… a 6ft "1/72" figure should be 25.3 mm high, (24mm for 1/76) …which means my "20mm" WW2 collection … isn't.?! … does this mean 20mm should be 1/90 scale ? or just a shade smaller than HO (1/87) scale ? Madness ! ..I agree ! |
