The first book of the Yoshiki Tanaka series on which the awesome space opera anime is based is now out. Go and buy it if you want to see more of them translated. Its not bad sci-fi and avoids a lot of the political biases (both right wing and left wing) that plague US sci-fi. Epic storyline, massive fleets, tons of characters, strategic thinking, operational, tactical, theater levels presented, generally even handed and good political commentary (I say that as a political scientist. This series is one of the best I have seen on dealing with politics), what is not to like. Space Opera in its finest. I got mine from Amazon for Kindle but I bet you can get it at any bookstore. link |

Cool, thanks for the heads up, but it's your fault if I start collecting miniatures in multiple scales for this! |

boy wundyr x with regards to miniatures for Legend of Galactic Heros I know theres some out there but they're somewhat pricy. The nice thing about these is that they're pre-painted which is a good thing. As for the series I tried to get thru it but couldn't as there's just too many episodes but I have a friend who has all the episodes on DVD it's a mix of subtitled and non-subtitled episodes. He also has the OVA movies as well and he does want to sell them so if you or anyone else is interested please let me know. For myself I'll stick with Space Battleship Yamato. Michael |

There will be a new series coming out in 2017 by Project IG. It will be re-imagining, which might or might not be as good as the old one, but probably will be in a normal contemporary anime series length (25 episodes). It might work for people who are unable to get into the 190 episode seires (original plus side stories) |

You'll find a few differences from the books and the series. Dusty Attenbourgh doesn't show up until much later in the book, where in the series he's one of Yang's long time friends. But for the most part the series kept very faithful to the book and the anime filled in some details the book glances over. Amd KTravlos, there is no way a 25 episode series can cover the books. The first book ends some where around episode 17 or so. And there are 110 episodes total from I think there 10 volumes of the book. |

Sargonarhes It will be a re-imaging (kinda like Yamato 2199 was for Yamato Original, or MS Gundam Origins is for original Gundam). I just cannot see them doing a 50 episode series, simply because the only one to still pull out this kind of stuff is "wading in cash" Sunrise when we are talking not run of the mill anime or fan-service degeneracy. Production IG simply has never been that rich (though Ghost in the Shell sells well, as do the Tales series). They might go for the OVA route (like MS Gundam Origins, or the new Berserk). So perhaps 10 or 5 OVAs each covering 1 or 2 books? We will see. If it is anything like the Yamato 2199 then we are in for a treat. |

Thanks Michael, I'll start with the book though (got it ordered). If I like it, I was figuring on using proxies for the ships, looks like maybe GZG and Brigade UK will work, from what I can see of the anime ships. |

Boy wundyr ZaNdris IV makes imperial ships based on the anime. It does not make Republican though :( link |

Have you not heard? The Gundam Unicorn is now going full series. They're adding new content to it to fill it out to a full TV season. Oh Zandris is selling LoGH Imperial ships. I've seen the models on Shapeways but they're listed as not for sale. |

I am not sure I am happy with a series of GU. It felt really well contained. I will wait for it to come out, and see if the new content justifies the viewing. Watching Red Garden now. Oh my bleak. It is essentially a good analogy for what conscript soldiers thrust into war might be going through (funnily enough) |

I saw some pages of the new manga. I weep. I weep. The world became more dark. If the manga artist is permitted to do the anime, there will be blood. The eyes, the eyes. I keep hope for the anime remake because it is bloody Project IG doing it (of Jin Roh, Ghost in the Shell etc fame) and might keep this person away. That said Reinhard is so Reinhard that I can enjoy even this

My copy arrived a few weeks ago, just finished it this week. It was pretty good, sort of an odd writing style sometimes in the translation, but you get over it. I'm not sure I really buy into the hundreds of thousands of spaceships in battle, unless it's really factoring in fighters, but again, you get over it. I'll look for the next volume, so yeah, I'm in. |

Nope not fighters, those are capital ships. But consider that the crew of the line battleship is about 200-300 people. Glad you liked it though! Cannot wait for the second book |
