I'm new to this board, so I hope this is the right place for this! I just painted up some 1/72 Hat Spanish grenadiers and although my painting is so-so, I thought people may be interested in my technique for handling those ridiculously complicated flames!! And it may be a technique creative minds can put to other uses… Here's the link to a step by step: link And here's a photo of some of the results:

Great results! Could you post the upc number for golden matte medium you use? I'm just getting back into Napoleonic's myself and am going the 1/72 route. Also, I did not see anywhere on your blog but what is your white on white painting technique? |

I'm glad this might be useful. It's pretty fast once you get the hang of it. Davbenbak, the upc code is 73879735305. I should note that it goes on milky but dries transparent – obviously, you want to avoid heavy layers. As for my "white on white' technique, as I say, I'm not much of a painter, but nothing too clever there. I paint the figure white, cover it with a thinned down black ink wash, go back in with white using a dry brush technique, building up the white on the high relief areas and leaving the wash in the folds. I then come back in and paint the webbing, epaulettes, collar etc.solid white (the last before going back in with the regimental colour, leaving the white for the piping – easier than painting little thin lines, I find!). |

Very clever. I have figures for 2 units of Front Rank Spanish Grenadiers and will have to remember to consider this technique! |
