You want change? Then vote for Cliff Brunken and Mike Fatovic for BOD. They will listen to your needs. Both are nembers of clubs and understand the importance of going forward positively. Get the word out vote it's your right!!!

Ceterman07 Apr 2016 3:30 p.m. PST

Stop.

zoneofcontrol07 Apr 2016 3:36 p.m. PST

If I recall the timing correctly, HMGS, Inc. has not used the moniker "HMGS, East" since the beginning(?) of the "Move Historicon Now" crisis. I seem to recall that it was not part of their official name and they were advised by legal representatives not to use it.

That being said, I thank you for your recommendations and look forward to the ballot information coming out. Good luck to those running for office and to the membership they will be representing.

capncarp07 Apr 2016 3:39 p.m. PST

i think i missed a memo. this drive-by campaigning?

Charlie 1207 Apr 2016 7:36 p.m. PST

this drive-by campaigning?

Certainly looks that way. And just as effective (NOT!)…

TRUgamer07 Apr 2016 8:15 p.m. PST

Why are the same guys always coming at Millercop?

I see nothing wrong with the original post whatsoever. Cliff is a stand up guy and does a LOT for HMGS and other gaming clubs and organizations.
Mike is a super guy also.
Both would be great additions to the BOD IMHO!

Millercop1607 Apr 2016 8:46 p.m. PST

Tom thank you it is refreshing to have a guy in my corner like yourself.

Charlie 1207 Apr 2016 9:34 p.m. PST

Oh, I have no doubt that the two individuals are able and capable candidates. And, when I receive my ballot, I will read their statements with interest. I just don't appreciate having Millercop shoving his high school caliber campaign crap in my face. Excuse me, but I'd rather make my own decisions on such matters…

Millercop1607 Apr 2016 9:49 p.m. PST

Charlie not telling you who to vote for if you read the thread I encourage all to vote. I attended the member meeting at Cold Wars and I think around 30 people attended. I believe if more people get involved we can change things for the better. Not shoving anything in your face vote for whom you want and I will endorse anyone I want. That is what makes this country so great.

Yours in war gaming,

Millercop (ED MILLER)

Ironwolf07 Apr 2016 10:16 p.m. PST

How did TMP become Charlie 12's personal webpage??? hahaha A guy posts a comment about voting in HMGS-East politics, and some how this guy takes it as being posted specifically for him?!?!?! hahaha

Now for the other 90% gamers on TMP who could care less about HMGS-East and their political squabbles. We can all go back to our normal reading. lol

Charlie 1207 Apr 2016 10:39 p.m. PST

When did it become millercop's private page for pushing candidates? And scan up the thread, I'm not only one put off by it.

Millercop1607 Apr 2016 10:45 p.m. PST

Not my page don't like the post don't read it. I will push candidates if you are put off by it sorry but this is America.

TSD10107 Apr 2016 11:05 p.m. PST

You want change? Then vote for Cliff Brunken and Mike Fatovic for BOD.

Did they promise you they were going to move Historicon north in exchange for your vote?

Millercop1607 Apr 2016 11:33 p.m. PST

No but they will do what is best for all of us. I don't know about you but have been gaming for 40 years and before the torch gets passed I would like to have as much fun as I can at the cons. This means we all have to give a little time and effort as far as me endorsing Mike and Cliff so be it if you have someone you want to endorse by all means go ahead.

Yours in war gaming,

Millercop (ED MILLER)

Ottoathome08 Apr 2016 2:22 a.m. PST

And what, Millercop16 are they going to do for us EXACTLY. No generalities, I mean concrete things.

Rotundo08 Apr 2016 3:22 a.m. PST

Cliff cares about this hobby in a general way. He also knows people across the east coast to a degree that he could really heal this chapter. He may be from the North, but never discounts the south. He also never forgets it is about dice in your hand and playing your men.

demiurgex08 Apr 2016 5:21 a.m. PST

Ah, excellent. I appreciate the information.

So definitely NOT voting for Millercop's candidates.

Thanks man, you always make it easy. :D

Ottoathome08 Apr 2016 5:29 a.m. PST

How will he "heal the chapter?"

I know people across he east coast too and am from the North and have many friends in the south.

Specifics please All we have so far is presidential candidate blandishments of a rosy but highly unspecified future.

Stepman308 Apr 2016 9:56 a.m. PST

Trump for HMGS East President…

grtbrt08 Apr 2016 10:50 a.m. PST

I had thought that he was already at least by looking at the policies and attitudes of the BOD over the last decade or so .

Personal logo Murphy Sponsoring Member of TMP08 Apr 2016 10:59 a.m. PST

You want change?

I thought when you were bandstanding for the last two guys in the last election that "things were gonna change?"
So how come it hasn't and how come do you need "two more" people to bandstand about that is going to make this so called change?

Oh and is "the change" you are crowing about actually "a GOOD change for all" or just a "change that YOU want to see?"…

Inquiring minds want to know….

Personal logo Murphy Sponsoring Member of TMP08 Apr 2016 11:01 a.m. PST

"…not telling you who to vote for…"

Uh yes you are….

You want change? Then vote for Cliff Brunken and Mike Fatovic for BOD.

So the other two candidates, (one of them being the guy going to the UK show that caused all the ruckus recently), didn't give you "The change" you wanted???

TRUgamer08 Apr 2016 11:15 a.m. PST

"Ah, excellent. I appreciate the information.

Foolish indeed…. if you knew Cliff he's nobody's candidate… He's all about the hobby and gives a tremendous amount of his time and effort.

I've always joked that he is the mayor of wargaming because of the friends and groups he supports from Virginia to CT.

That is not fair to ask Millercop… I'm sure he's saying this because he knows him and can vouch for his character (as can I). Why don't you wait and hear what he says and then ask him yourself?

Murphy,

I attended the membership meeting at cold wars. So much is going on behind the scenes regarding the status of the future of this organization. ALL the current bod members are working hard for us so we can continue to enjoy our conventions. This is not a personal crusade I feel based on my opinion Cliff and Mike are stand up guys and would be an asset in the future. If you have someone in mind please let us know it doesn't matter if they win or not but we need more involvement from everyone the lack of attendance at the meeting says it all. I'm just trying to light a fire as I love history and gaming and is a big part of my life and would hate to lose the conventions I have grown to love.

TRUgamer08 Apr 2016 12:47 p.m. PST

"So the other two candidates, (one of them being the guy going to the UK show that caused all the ruckus recently), didn't give you "The change" you wanted???"

So I'm curious, how has this "ruckus" affected you or the organization? You should be greatful instead of always going after Rusty. Do you even attend the East cons?

How can I believe you when Millercop has opened a thread endorsing me and Murphy for the BOD? Clearly there's some ulterior agenda at work!

Still, Millercop isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. I'm not sure I should trust his endorsements.

Very well. I won't vote for me, Murphy, Cliff or Mike in the next election.

I'm sorry Murph. I know you are a quality gamer of high integrity, but Millercop endorsed you, and that's just the kiss of death for any sober and serious indivdiual.

TRUgamer08 Apr 2016 1:33 p.m. PST

Dear Trugamer

"How will he "heal the chapter?""

That is not fair to ask Millercop… I'm sure he's saying this because he knows him and can vouch for his character (as can I). Why don't you wait and hear what he says and then ask him yourself?

Isn't it? On what basis are you and Millercop "vouching" for him? And what exactly are you vouching for? That he;s your friend, that he plays war games? So far everyone ever elected to the BOD was "vouched for" by someone. And what sanctions shall apply should your "vouching" prove mistaken.

We've had this sort of thing going on since 1998 when everyone was saying "we had to heal the chapter" which was long before anyone knew it was injured. Back then it was "take it to the next level" or "Grow the Con to be Origins" or "Make the HMGS more efficient" and various other mantras, all of which in fact served to wreck the old way when it was growing and successful. So why should I accept the latest warm fuzzy term stolen from the presidential campaign and tarted up for the HMGS. Many of us have been listening to this for twenty years now!

As for the Bios that come out, they are a joke. The last election I had to sit there through the six pages with a red pencil marking off the ones I had read because all of them sounded identical and I couldn't remember whose I was reading. When I got to the finish I had read the same one six to nine times.

I'd like to know point by point what CONCRETE things they would like to aim for and implement and how to do it.

The problem is simple. In the guise of "continuity" they have made it that the BOD can only be replaced one or two persons at a time. This means that to change the entire bod you have to go through three election cycles. When two people are elected, even if brand spanking new, the other five people in the incredibly corrupt world of the BOD get slammed to the ground and things are done by phone outside of the full bod and NO record is kept. In order to get along they go along, which means that they accept all the corruption and buy into it. Then they become part of the Bod and by the time they cycle out, they are as bad as the rest.

What I would like to see are people who come up with things like.

ALL business of the Bod must be transacted in open session AT one of the three conventions, where a quorum of non-bod members are present.

There can be NO votes not at a regular meeting of the BOD and there are NO closed sessions. Complete sunshine laws as you have in local planning, zoning and town council boards.

No confidentiality agreements which force members to silence.

Specific fiscal proposals, one which comes to mind would be something like "We will squeeze every nickel till the Indian comes out the other side riding the Buffalo until such time as we have over a million in the bank, at which time we can float a years worth of convention expenses off the interest in the bank and let the dealers and gamers in for free.

Volunteer rooms are a function of attendees of the PREVIOUS years convention at 1.6% For example, if last years Historicon had 2500 attendees (as determined by the number of passes of all types PAID FOR, then that's 40 rooms. Further, all rooms are comp rooms. Volunteers pay for their rooms and put in vouchers for reimbursement to the treasurer who pays them if it is established their volunteer service ammunted to 40% of the time of the convention. No getting a free comp if you just hung out and gassed with your friends and handed out T shirts for an hour.

A complete tally sheet of all expenses of each con down to the invoice, purchase order and packing list, of who got what, which of course means institution of a three-way match system. This means you have a purchase order signed which shows what was ordered or spent, who received it and who it went to, which is the packing list, and an invoice for payment signed again by the treasurer etc., All shortfalls to be made up by the Bod in its entirety.

All contracts for hotels and services to be posted on the HMGS web site for any to see and read.

All passes at the convention are at the weekend rate. No day passes. Don't care if you come only to buy, the convention depends on people who come for the weekend to take hotel rooms which defray the expenses of the rental, and those are the people who play games, put them on, run the dealers and flea markets and make the convention what it is for all.

Stuff like that.

I mean actual concrete proposals.

I'm tired of the hand-job generalities of the usual run of things.

TRUgamer09 Apr 2016 8:19 a.m. PST

I'll boil it down for you… If you speak ill of my friend, then I am obliged to explain how I feel you're mistaken. It's YOUR job to form your own opinion.

If you would like a further explanation, send me your snail mail and I will mail you an invitation on how to get a clue.

Otto, perhaps you should run. You are obviously brilliant and committed. Your work with the Weekend is simply unparalleled. I spend my weekends thinking about The Weekend!. I have never been to the Weekend but I think I will correct that this Weekend. We even talked about the Weekend this Weekend. I will need to see if I am free the weekend of The Weekend. Send me your postal address to sigurd@eclipse.net to get an invitation.

Per James Curtis of the election committee.

Ballots must be mailed in by Tuesday May 10th.

rmcaras Supporting Member of TMP08 May 2016 7:28 p.m. PST

No. Anyone, not having a ballot that was expecting one has until May 10th to contact James Curtis. The ballots must be mailed back by a specific date in early June (postmark). That is my understanding. And the timing of the previous elections.

114th Pennsylvania Supporting Member of TMP20 May 2016 5:15 a.m. PST

You are correct. Ballots are good until early June- But please remember to vote.

My Mistake

civildisobedience22 May 2016 7:22 a.m. PST

First, I have to agree that Cliff is a great guy, and one who works hard for the hobby.

Second, it is an unfortunate side effect of disagreement on issues that people tend to argue mindlessly, more like a team fan than someone discussing and thinking about real issues. Debates get nastier than they should. That is, sadly, something we all suffer from.

BUT, the one thing I absolutely, positively DO NOT understand is the group of people who seemingly spend their entire day scouring TMP looking for posts they think are stupid, so they can rush right over there and post some whining complaint about the existence of the thread.

Look, I absolutely despise avocados. Does that mean I should seek out every cooking and recipe board on the Internet and whine about the fact that people are talking about avocados?

What pathetic drive sends someone into a debate just to complain that people are discussing it? Seriously, if you disagree with a post, then say that, and join the discussion. But if you're just not interested or you think it is a silly conversation, then move on. It's really a complete waste of your time and everyone else's to whine like a two year old because people are having a conversation that doesn't pass muster with your worldly and cultured standards.
