I'm going to start playing Conflict of Heroes and while the counters are superb I thought about how neat it would be to play with mini's (mainly GHQ)

Anyone here use mini's for their board games? How do you like it?

More often I've made tables based on game boards. Had a friend that did the 1st 12 Squad Leader boards at 4" to the hex.

I've done it a little. The problem you run into is with information markers. Squad Leader eventually ended up,with 35 different info counters that you'd have to place on or near each model. Didn't work well.

A friend is working on a miniature version. It was different. The action points force you to rethink how you approach the game compared to say – Command Decision.

Some of the unit rating – armor, guns, etc. vary significantly from what I expect. Some of it is horses for courses.

Most of the time issues with stacking and miniature size making playing a board game with miniatures a no go.

As a HotT, DBN and DBA-HX gamer I use a 2' x 2' board for my games. Big battles with multiples armies are of course extended using the same 2' x 2' segments.

The computer version of Conflict of Heroes gives you the choice of playing classic style with the counters as in the board game or with actual troop figures. Gives a good idea of what the game would look like with miniatures.

The old Axis and Allies mini's game used mini's on large hex maps.
It wasn't bad, just a bad business model.

I've wanted to use my squad leaders boards for a mini's game for a while, but they are rather fiddly.

I have made up of a zombie version of the clue game. It's played on the original board with miniatures as the characters (Miss Scarlet, Colonel mustard etc.) with zombies roaming the halls as the players try to solve the Mystery of where are the cure is.

I have done the awful green things from outer space with miniatures played on a board that is an enlargement of the original board.

yes, I print out large hex grid versions of various old board wargame maps, especially ones that have a nice period look to them.
