As a former sailor, I could never understand why ladies weren't issued the same dixie cup us male sailors were. Now that's changing… link I still have one of mine. Fun story- when I was qualified on small arms, I was issued an ancient M1911 and as I fired each round, the ejected casing would fly straight up into my Dixie Cup. When the range officer called us to police our casings, I simply took off my cap and emptied into the bin much to the amusement of the Chiefs observing the quals. |

Iconic. Do you wish they still had flat hats when you were in? I have the band my dad saved from his time on the Oklahoma. Long overlap with the Dixie. I put a pic of my uncle in his Dixie on my profile page. He didn't make it off. |

Sorry to hear about your uncle, Hafen. I would have enjoyed the flat hats when I was in, as frankly wearing the Dixie in a dress uniform felt a little weird to me, like wearing a nice suit and ugly shows. |

Love the Dixie. Seems to limit the ladies hair styles however. |

The local Police force has been issuing woman officers with the same standard hat as the men for more than a decade – as opposed to the bowler/fedora looking thing that many UK or Commonwealth countries have their woman constables wearing Turns out it has nothing to do with gender equity – there were not rain covers for the woman's hats and the Chief was tired of having to replace them early because they got soaked and wore out |

I hate when women wear the same cover as men. It's their choice however in the FD where I work… |

Thanks for the thought,TG. Never knew him,of course I wasn't born til years later. There's more to the story that makes it sadder, but I won't go into it here. |
