Heavy Artillery regiments had two colors. A national pattern flag, and an artillery flag. The artillery flag was of yellow silk, with gold painted crossed cannons in the center. Flag cords for both flags were of scarlet and white mixed. There were always exceptions, but that's what the regs called for.

Not the 2nd CT Heavy Artillery, but check out Don Troiani's painting, "The Forlorn Hope" depicting the change of the 1st Maine Heavy Artillery at Petersburg. Nice depiction of the heavy artillery flag.

I've done a couple of heavy artillery regiments. The yellow regimental standards are a refreshing change from the usual infantry standards.

You don't call them Heavy Infantry. They are Heavy Artillery. While many such units were created from Infantry units they were fully trained in the use of Artillery and took a bit of pride in it.

As I recall most Heavy Artillery flags should also have plenty of bullet holes in them too!
