Last week I reviewed the Jovian forces that were released in the first wave of Fleet Scale releases for Jovian Chronicles and/or Lightning Strike. This week its time to take a look at what CEGA brings to the table. The review can be found here: link

So far we have the Wraith fighters and the Syreen and Wyvern exo armors.

If I had the spare money, which I don't, I would be all over these. While Gundam is not my favourite setting, I prefer VOTOMS, these miniatures are lovely.

About my only criticism, and this is just me being finicky, is that I'd like larger versions of the Capital ships to play the games around i.e. focus on the mechs and have the ships as moving scenery, but I would concede this would require a larger playing area, something I lack.

Anyway no money to spend on wargames as I have too much stuff unpainted and can't justify buying more.

…have the ships as moving scenery…

Heck, the mechs should be small enough to play with the table as the side of the ship, for close and personal fighting.

Use a Deathstar table map, and Bob's your uncle.

This was actually something that was floated a number of years ago when there was talk of updating the Lightning Strike rules (ie "Lightning Strike Blitz").

The idea would be that ships would basically be off-board elements, kind of like artillery or airstrikes, and the main fight would be between the mechs. However, this was back when the 30mm exos were going to stay around. Now, with things like Dropfleet Commander and Star Wars Armada raking in huge money I think DP9 realize that there might be a larger customer base for a fleet scale game WITH ships instead of one focusing only on the exos.

I'm happy with the direction they're going and my only concern is that the exos might loose what makes them unique if they get streamlined to fit into a "regular" space wargame.

Oh, and I like VOTOMS better than Gundam as well, but I like Jovian Chronicles better than VOTOMS. ;)
