Who have had tried changing the battery of their Macbook? Did you buy the battery online or you sent your laptop to authorize apple store to change the battery? My laptop's battery is getting worst now. I should always plug in the charger or else the battery will drain so fast, sometimes it will shut off right away. |

This happens when you don't cycle the battery properly. Mine did the same and I could only use the Macbook Pro plugged into the mains as the battery had lost the ability to hold a charge. Eventually it kinda had a gentle explosion. |

Batteries do go bad after a while. Nothing new there. You should be able to change it yourself and just order the part. I suspect there is a "generic" version of the battery out there. Definitely worth a look to save a few dollars. |

Hi Julia, They never work as well as advertised, and do tend to sometimes catch fire, or explode, so you need to exercise caution with them (that's pretty rare, but it does happen). Over time, the batter strength will weaken, so you'll need to get a replacement, as it sounds like you've surmised. Not sure if the newer lithium batteries are still the same, but with the older ones, they have a memory, so when you first get them, and as you use them, they need to be fully charged, and then completely drained, in order to ensure you get the best use from them. You'll generally want to do that all the time, but most of us don't use them that way. I tend to just keep my laptop plugged in all the time, instead, since the charge life is so short, otherwise. Hope that helps. Sincerely,

Can you replace the battery on the macs? If so, best bet is to just replace the battery, unless the laptop is so new its still under warranty. There's not really a way to "repair" a battery once its started losing its charge. |

Hi Julia, It depends on what model MacBook you have. If it is a MacBook Pro made between 2008 and 2013, the battery is replaceable. There are some specialty screws that hold the battery in. They are known as try-lobe. If however you have a MacBook Pro with Retina display or one of the new MacBooks with retina display the batter is not replaceable by the consumer. The reason is the battery is actually permanently attached to the top was (the part of the computer were the keyboard and track pad are located. In the United States an Apple Authorized Service Provider should charge around $129.99 USD for a MacBook Pro battery that is replaceable. Where as the MacBook Pro with Retina should cost around $199.99 USD. Both of these should be as installed. Chris Arnold Apple Certified Macintosh Technician Apple Certified Support Professional |
