Interesting…

"Adam Badeau was on General Grant's staff and took care of all of General Grant's personal correspondence. It is said, he was General Grant's closest aide and they stayed close up until near Grant's death. Why do I bring up Adam Badeau because he was gay. You will not find it anywhere in his bio and you will not find it in any bio about Grant either. It seems to have been conveniently washed from history, Adam Badeau being gay and how it may relate to his relationship with Grant. Once it is known that Grant's closest aide and friend is gay, it brings up uncomfortable questions we must ask about Grant and about their relationship. Below I have links that show Adam Badeau was gay and had homosexual liaisons with Edwin Booth and with cavalry man General James H Wilson. Wilson was part of Grant's staff and recommended Badeau to Grant. The links require you read a paragraph to a page at most…"

Is the implication that Grant must have been gay because he had a friend who was gay? It's not contagious.

I also don't think they are "uncomfortable questions", or that "we must ask". Obviously there were gay people back then, and they didn't really advertise the fact. So in most cases we'll never know. But I'm sure there are many things about the personal lives of many historical figures we will never know. Why must we ask?

Ah yes. Another author in search of a pay day.

Yawn. I'd consider buying the book and using it to line the birdcage, but I suspect that that would be redundant.

Allow me to preface my remarks by saying that there is, IMO, nothing wrong with being Homosexual. Having said that boy, this remark is based on very little evidence. He was Grant's aide for a long time so Grant must have known and that also somehow indicates that Grant may have been Gay? I agree with some of the comments to the article that it's meaningless either way although it seems very important to the person who wrote this theory. One of my best friends is Gay, he has been a friend for over 20 years. We are close. Despite that, I am not Gay. It reminds me of a bit by Woody Allen;

1)Socrates was a Man
2)Socrates was Homosexual

therefore

3)All men are Homosexual.

SO what evidence does he have that Badeau was gay?

I have heard that General Lee's horse Traveller was actually a male and female furry team and the woman would never let the guy play the front end. Do you think I can get a book deal?

Hmmm…I have several gay friends (male and female) with
whom I've traveled, invited to my home (as both sleep-
over and transient guests), corresponded (USPS and e-mail)
and gamed (as player and GM).

So what ?

Which is my comment anent Tango's posting.

Like history will change and the Union lose the war if Grant turns out to have been Gay.

Or Alexander's Empire never happened because he was 100% Straight I assume?
