link It's here at last, the write up for our Spanish Civil War, University City game which we played last month. A good game where two "teams" of three players face off, each player has their own political faction and own objectives to complete, for added spice you get double points if you get your troops filmed completing their objectives. It's a long post with lots of detail including our cash based reinforcement system. If you don't game Spanish Civil War you should it's a fascinating period. Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |

Wow I really love this scenario. The objectives are great and funny as well, and the film crew just takes it to the next level. Bravo! Although, FYI, there were no Mac-Paps in 1936. Of course, if I got to play this excellent game, I wouldn't care. ;) How did it go with your group? |

Cheers Primalucem, It was the Theilman battalion who was present but it was a case of using the units we had. I'll do a follow up AAR in the next week or so as a break from painting ships for Jutland! Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |

Agree, SCW is a fascinating period, with lots of interesting participants, ideologies, weapons and possible scenarios. Add the excellent 28nn Empress miniatures and it is also possible to field a wide assortment of miniatures, along other manufactuers. Thanks for sharing. |

Excellent. A whole lot of fun by the looks of it. I really like how you have done the figure painting. Well done. |

Good deal. Looking forward to the AAR. And the figures looked great too. |

Ken: I am thinking of doing a similar campaign. What source did you use for the table? Seeing the Italian tank, I am assuming your OOBs were more open-ended? |

Hi McLaddie, Try this for a contemporary map link Find the Madrid map halfway down the page. Regards the CV33, 5 were delivered to the Nationalists in August 36 and another 10 in October and December, seemed reasonable to include them as a reinforcement option. I do have a more modern Spanish language map of the University if you need that. Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |

Ken: Thank you. I have the Spanish picture book of the SCW that the map came from [or they used] I was wondering how you determined the rough terrain. Most maps have the buildings and roads, but little else. Nice board. It will be fun to see how your home-brewed rules work. Lots of fighting over the various buildings. I didn't know about the CV33s being delivered so early in the war. Interesting. I thought they only showed up with the Italians. It does seem reasonable to include them. |

Hi McLaddie, The areas of "rough terrain" have been added at random. They represent our lowest area of cover (-1 on firing vs say -2 for a wood and 3 for a building) and are there to represent general everyday cover in a university campus, things like grass verges, flower beds folds in the ground anything which could give cover. I doubt there is much if any "open" ground. It also makes it a decent game as folk do like things to hide behind. Games where stuff gets massacred walking across open ground arent that popular and not much fun to play. Regards, Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |
