"The shaky debut last week of a new unity government in Libya brings Western nations, including the United States, much closer to a renewed military mission there, and to a host of obstacles that will test their ability to secure a country gripped by Islamist extremism and civil war. Tensions ran high on Wednesday after Fayez Serraj, a little-known Libyan technocrat selected as prime minister in a United Nations peace process, arrived by boat in Tripoli from Tunisia. Western officials hailed his installation in the Libyan capital as a sign that the country's two-year political divide is finally coming to an end — despite the existence of rival governments in Tripoli and the country's east. The war on terrorism, or rather the war on ISIS, has shifted from Iraq and Syria to Libya since it has become their new base of operations so to speak. There's also the perception that we helped destabilize Libya and created the conditions in which ISIS is thriving by deposing Gaddafi. Therefore, it's another mess we "have to" clean up. |

ISIS is going to bounce around and the US and her allies need to prepare for that type of conflict. This year it is Libya. Next year it might be central Africa. The year after back in Iraq. |

It's not just a "perception" Fanatik, it's reality. 'Daffy managed to keep the lid on things for quite a while there, as did Saddam in Iraq. Apparently, strong dictators do have their uses, as much as many of us dislike them on general principles. Just goes to show they may sometimes be the lesser of several evils. |
