Has anyone ever gamed Ruritania or Graustark? I know completely fictional but it seems like using FPW and other figures some truly unique little fictional armies and battles could be put together. The countries involved are small and fought among themselves |

Some years ago I produced A to Zs of several fictional 19th century countries: Ruritania ( link Strackenz ( link ) |

I have armies for both (based for Volley and Bayonet). Use them for Classic Red/Blue scenarios. Used Soldier's Companion (Space 1889) for the painting guide |

I have 15mm armies (set about 1800) in progress for several of the fictional countries. The furthest developed are the Axphaians in the Russian Potemkin uniforms. |

I think Graustark and Axphain fought a war in the 1870's I am assuming using similar to the FPW weaponry and uniforms. Small countries, common weaponry, fictional colors, seems to have a little of everything |

I've run a large number of games in my version of Ruritania, which is based originally in the Space 1889 universe. These have been primarily RPGs but with a heavy mix of miniature battles. They have run from the late 17th century up through World War II, even Romans vs. the Ruritanii: link |

I was going to work up Graustark vs Axphain. According to the first book Graustark had a standing army of 2,000 in Red, Black, and Gold uniforms and Axphain was in Gray. I am debating between ACW and FPW for a base, or a mix, and a good set of rules. Thinking these little countries might not have much money for the latest equipment maybe muzzle loading cannons and muzzle loading rifles (surplus Enfield's and Springfield's anyone?) so some ACW rules might be perfect |

I have run a solo Ruritanian campaign using skirmish rules for daring do (Currently IHMN) and using 15mm for the larger actions. |

I used to play Diplomacy in the Graustark fanzine. |

So this is fun no looking for uniform references making up my own colors and facings. As Graustark seems to have strong ties to the USA, probably because the books were written for Americans, and my time period is shortly after the civil war I went with US surplus 1863 rifles and 12 pounder Napoleon cannon. I used the 2,000 man army as a base and added another 2,000 reserve that would be mobilized in war time, plus a Royal Guard. So for Graustark I have 4 regiments of infantry at 800 men each, 4 artillery batteries of 6 Napoleons each, and 4 squadrons of cavalry (2 lancers, 2 chasseurs) of 160 each plus a guard of one 400 man infantry regiment, a 4 gun horse artillery battery, and a squadron each of cuirassiers (need them for the Royal parades) and hussars. Working up the Axphians next was thinking they should be a smaller army but more up to date weaponry |

So this is my Graustarkian Army from 1858 am I missing anything?
