How do you base your 40 mm AWI troops? How many figures comprise a Unit? How many figures to a base and what size are the bases? Pictures of said work would be most appreciated. |

I think it really depends on how you want to use the 40s. I have two projects in mind for my 40s. One will use them based same as my 30s – 6 to a base (two ranks of 3) with 6 to 8 stands making an average unit. – In this case I'd be replacing my 30mm armies with 40mm and playing the same game/rules. My other thought is individually based. Similar to Eric's suggestion, but not on washers (only because I don't like the look of round bases when forming up). Number of figures per unit would depend on what you will be playing – if skirmish level somewhere around 20 seems reasonable. Skirmish is nice for space, but I think 40's work really well based 6 to a stand (roughly 1 figure = 10 men) and they really don't take much more space than 28/30mm figures. |

Like Eric, fender washers. Gotta love auto correct. First time I typed it, it read "gender washers". I wonder what that means? And why it looks normal? |

My 40s are mounted on fender washers for skirmishing and for larger games four to a base(2x2)with magnets used to hold them in place. |

My partner in crime and I are still debating this. I like thin,he likes thick.I gave in. I like double rank on a base,he likes single. He gave in(so far). I'm favoring 2X2 on 40mm x50mm, 32 figures for the British(usually), varying for Rebels. Haven't figured exactly how to handle skirmishers. PIC'S latest declaration is he'll drill holes in the stand and screw them to the base for easy removal. Like that will ever happen. Winston,I'm convinced Autocorrect is becoming sentient: TMP link

All my 40's are mounted individually on washers. My AWI and ACW figures are 16 figures per unit and I am able to mount the washers on magnetic stands which hold 8 figures each. My FIW units are 36 men per regular Infantry and 12 men per unit of Indians, Lights, etc. Again, able to use them individually or mount them on magnetic stands. |

Someday I hope I, too, am faced with this dilemma. |

I've not seen it myself but I'm told that 40mm figures look good on the base sizes typically used for 28mm. This will obviously make them look tighter spaced. No matter what spacing they used in real life I think model units generally look better and have more table-top presence if they are closely based. Single or double rank is down to personal preference. The latter photograph better as a single unit, the former look more linear. |

How do the fender washers look next to each other? Is it too much space between the figures to make them look like they are in line? Any pictures would be appreciated |

Look on my web site at miniatureservicecenter.com under "Customer Showcase" and you will see some photos of how the washers look side by side. |
