Bad Squiddo Games | 02 Apr 2016 8:38 a.m. PST |
Hello! You might have seen this before when there was a big thread, but it got lost in the purge or whatever happened last month, so here we go again!
Here at Bad Squiddo Games we (I!) manufacture female miniatures, in the right gear, "doing their thing", and most important, not tripping over high heels or chainmail bikinis on the battlefield. Up til recently it has been mostly dark ages with a bit of fantasy but this new line of Red Army Women has exploded out of nowhere with 23 new sculpts. Sculpted by Alan Marsh, and display images painted by Andrew Taylor. Top image (sniper painting) by Greg Taylor. They are currently up for pre order, available to both collect pre order and buy on the day of SALUTE, other pre releases will be shipped at the END OF APRIL. You get some perks for pre ordering to help me know what numbers to send to the casters – see on the link for the "Soviet Baggy" badge, but seen as there have been a lot I will add something in else with the top piece of artwork by Greg Taylor, just need to plan/budget what I can add in! get em here >>> link There will be lots more to follow, already have a huge list I want to pass onto the sculptor, so funds I make from these and Salute (bar, you know, funds required to stay alive) will be going straight into the next wave! Yes to more units, yes to more seasons, and yes to civillians/partizans (to pre empt the questions from the last thread) and yes to other nations! I want to expand this into a huge WW2 collection. Anyway…. on with the models! Command (Officer, Radio, Medic)
Infantry with Rifles
Infantry with SMG
Kneeling Sniper Team
Standing Sniper Team
LMG Team
Haven't got painted of the following photographed yet, but you can see some of them in my bit of a play with a Rubicon T-34 below. Tank Riders
Tank Commanders

They look absolutely fantastic! I'm considering putting together a Bolt Action Soviet force. I'll be at Salute with my friend and potential opposition so there may well be a few purchases of these from yourself :-) Fantastic! |

Are these 28mm scale? Ooh, those snipers… |
Bad Squiddo Games | 02 Apr 2016 9:26 a.m. PST |
Oh yes, forgot that bit! 28mm, fit lovely with Artizan, Warlord, Crusader and I imagine probably everyone else. The are a fraction smaller, but they are mostly teenage girls, so I that makes sense :) |

Those are outstanding! Brought to mind the encounter between Sergeant Steiner's exfiltrating squad and the all female Russian mortar unit in the Kuban forest in Willi Heinrich's "The Cross Of Iron". |

Where are the big boobs and chain mail? Seriously though, good luck with your venture. |

Marvellous, order placed. May we have some Night Witches too, please? I refer of course to the light night-bomber crews that upset the Germans so. |
Grignotage | 02 Apr 2016 12:08 p.m. PST |
Those are fantastic. We need way more of these in lieu of the other kind of female minis. |

Ura! These are beautiful. |

I am eagerly awaiting mine and just had the thought that maybe for your next release a few more buxom types would be in order. Like a hefty traffic controller or a Doctor. |

Glad to see you posted this again. As I stated in the thread that had been purged I thought I was done collecting 28 mm Russians for WW II. I now see I am wrong and will have to add these Red Ladies to my force. I am curious were the women units segregated from the men or did they mix? |

They look great! So nice to see something that doesn't look like some kind of porn fetish:

Kallman – there were some renowned all-female units but from what I've read that wasn't the norm. |

You say £3.00 GBP each for the sniper team, how much is the shipping on top of that? Cheers |

Actually, Javelin, that's from Iron Sky, so they're all the fascist imperialists that these brave sisters of socialist liberation are fighting against. The one on the right is definitely an evil Nazi… ;) On the subject of evil – Annie, you are seriously tempting me to start 28mm WW2 now! How great to see something very new and different for this period. I hope these do great for you. The sculpts are teriffic, too! |

Can we have them in 15mm as well please! |

Cool, these are sure to find a market! |

Thanks so much! They've gone down a blast! I'll paste here what I typed elsewhere to save hands! --- Whilst women carried out all the same wartimes roles as the other forces, the Soviet Union was the only one who officially allowed them to bear arms or pull a trigger. This means that we do have frontline troops, a lot were actually combat medics, or joined under guise of "medic" for a bit of frontline action. It was also pretty common for angry, patriotic women to write to Stalin demanding to fight, which was responded with "Hey, put that lady on a poster and give her a gun, this looks ace."
So whilst the total of the million quoted is not a million riflewomen, there are still a lot. I found reading Russian resources to be very helpful as most of the books or articles I was reading very much focus on the same 10ish people, so it would be easy to think these were exceptions. They are the more famous (be it snipers with huge kill tallies or photogenic/celebrities, but there are so so many) but only a drop in the ocean. It is such a fascinating subject to read about, and get's so much more interesting once you get past the "Women were allowed in the Red Army straight away it was ace, go Russia", it is far less straightforward. I'm excited to finally be able to talk about this, as I've spent the last few months doing all this reading rather open mouthed, and having nobody to say "!!!!!!!!!! Get a load of this!" The choice to start with frontline troops was a mixture of - wanting to start the release with figures that are very useful in game. This is the largest single release I have done so far, and a big chunk of money for a relatively new one person band, so I wanted to make figures that people use first, to see if it works enough to make more. The reaction overnight has had me messaging the sculptor with a "Yes! more!" - learning about the 1st Women's Volunteer Rifle Brigade. It requires a dig (like many of these things, I learnt quickly are not simply google-able). It was what I can gather to be a bit of a disaster. The success of the Night Bombers led to a plan to form 50 Women's only brigades, 162,000 people. The first had - 4 rifles battalions -Training battalion -Automatic weapons unit -Reconnaissance unit -Communications company -Sapper company -Automotive company -Mortar division -Machine gun division -Medical nursing company -Artillery division -Bakery?! So that's effectively my green light to make them all! The "disaster" I mentioned was that it was a great plan, they were all trained and ready to go, and never got put on the frontline. And a number of them had been taken off the frontline in the first place, so the moral was appauling as the women felt they had been lied to, and there was a higher rate of suicides and desertion….to the frontline! The keenness to get to the frontline was another of the fascinating elements. They were used though, mostly for guarding and patrolling freshly liberated towns, just not the frontline action they yearned for. That really is it in a nutshell, all I have time to go into at this moment, but I will be happy to chat through it now. So although there were women on the frontline dotted about, there was also an all-female brigade. I was really moved by the story, so thought it would be a suitable tribute to be able to finally send them to the frontline in 28mm. ---

I understand that Russian Civil War is a niche within a niche, but you could have a look at these units: link "1st Russian Women's Battalion of Death" is the most metal unit name I've ever seen. |

These look to be wearing the M-1943 or "late war" uniforms? I.E., rank worn on shoulder boards, with a button-up high collar? I mostly game the early war era. Will you be releasing ladies in the uniform for 1941-1942? No shoulder boards, and rank in sets of red enamel triangles, pips, and diamonds, worn on a rise-and-fall collar?? |

I could also use some of the SMG- and rifle-armed figures wearing the "pilotka" instead of the helmet. |

One of my Facebook friends introduced me to a Ussian lady who is a big time re-enact or. Her wall page and friends sites are full of great photos of Ww2 uniforms. |
