Can anyone help with sources so I can create a historical scenario involving a French tank regiment or two? Would like to know if French tanks ever took on German tanks (captured British tanks I guess). I'm using the Great War Spearhead rule set. |

My favorite tank of all time is the FT-17. Here is a blurb from Wikipedia: "The battlefield debut of the Renault FT occurred on 31 May 1918 east of the Forest of Retz, near Chaudun, between Soissons and Villers-Cotterets, during the Second Battle of the Marne. This engagement, with 30 FTs, successfully broke up a German advance, but in the absence of infantry support, the vehicles later withdrew." Hope that helps a bit. Look up the St.Chamond and Scheidner on there and you will find other battles listed. Very cool idea btw! |

I'm not aware of any Franco German tank battles in WW1, they were vanishingly rare in any case. The first major French use of tanks was in Nivelles offensive in 1917. Lots and lots of Schneiders and St Chamonds. The French Army mutinied shortly thereafter, curtailing offensive use of French tanks until 1918. |

I am working on several tank scenarios for Great War Spearhead supplement. There were many battles that involved French tanks, especially in 1918. None that saw French go up against German tanks though. Robert |

For a scenario idea, try the link below which details the French attack at the battle of Malmaison in Oct 1917. The attack included tanks but the Germans were not overly concerned with them, they believed they could be countered quite easily. PDF link |

Do not forget that Patton commanded US FT-17's in France and attacked German positions with them. |

I've got mostly ft 17s in fact. Thanks all for the ideas and the pdf link. I'll have a look through it now. |
