"This is probably going to be a sacred text, and will be remarkable for telling us about the early belief system of a lost culture that is fundamental to western traditions," said archaeologist Gregory Warden, co-director and principal investigator of the Mugello Valley Archaeological Project, which made the discovery. link |

Indeed. Not a whole lot of Etruscan text survives, so this may well be key towards deciphering more of what's to hand. |

You never know, the Villa of the Papyri at Pompeii may one day yield up the Tyrrenika of the Emperor Claudius, or his Etruscan dictionary… Wouldn't that be grand? There has been some success reading charred papyrii, once thought unreadable, using infrared camera systems, so yeah. Who knows? |
