Last year I've visited the Ouvrage Simserhof in the city of Bitche, northern Lorraine. The Simserhof was part of the fortified sector of Rohrbach. For a short introduction: link One of the great artillery fortresses in the region. Last year I wasn't active here at TMP, so I decided to post the link today, because there are a lot of photos you maybe interested in. The text is in German. Have fun with the pictures: link |

This ouvrage (and the city of Bitche) are on my list to visit. Thanks for sharing. |

Nice images. When we were there about 15 (…) years ago, we visited Schoenenbourg and Four-a-Chaux, both of which are large Maginot Line fortresses (gros ouvrages), in good condition. Both places let us wander around on our own; well worth the admission fee. They are both within driving distance of Bitche (we stayed at a B&B apartment in Baerenthal, Alsace, France). The citadel of Bitche is an excellent place to visit as well (Franco-Prussian War).
