Just sorting the turret for the Leopard 1A5, and trying to fathom out the machine gun.

With the new turret, we now have the 1A1, which also covers the 1V in this scale, 1A3/C1 and 1A4 (technically you need to change a periscope) and 1A5/C2.

I may add the 1A5BE or 1A5DK later in the year, which are actually modified 1A3s, not to be confused with the 'normal' 1A5 which is an upgraded 1A1 (!)

Then the question came about the turret machine gun, as people like the Germans, Norwegians, Greeks, Lebanese and Danish seem to have had the MG3, while the Canadians, Dutch and Belgians appear to have the FN-MAG GPMG.

Photos are inconclusive about which side of the turret this is mounted… Canada on the left, Germany on the right, Brazil on the left, Ecuador on the right…

Canadian 1A3 (C1):

Was it moveable? Optional fitting to either cupola? Or commanders choice?

I suspect MG mounting is doctrinal – some countries give the commander the MG, and others think he ought to have better things to do, so have the loader man it.

Hmmm…"spotting leopards." I see how you did that there.

Like Dom said, it was probably based on each country. Have an option to mount it in either position.

The Dutch also used .50s on their Leopard 2s, just to be awkward…

I'm focusing on Leopard 1 at the moment! Chas asked if anyone used 0.30

The Canadian C2 has a much bigger box on the back.

How much speed did the C2 lose with the second version of applique?

Ok Fred, I have the Tank Museum climbing over their one for me, taking measurements and photos, so we will have a dedicated C2 turret :-)
