What drill bit sizes are you guys using to pin 28mm figures.

3/64ths?

I am trying to track down some good drill bits and rods to pin with.

I am thinking 1/16th is a little too big for most situations, yet that seems to be the smallest size most hardware stores carry.

Rio Grande Jewelry Supplies had some pretty tiny bits. You can order online with them.

I bought my via games workshop and it has worked great for years. I then use a metal paper clip or part of the safety pin to join the pieces.

It all depends on the size or gauge of the wire you will use for pinning. You definitely do not want to use too large a drill bit. It needs to be a tight fit.

1/32nd, I believe

but I would think use whatever size matches the material you are pinning with.

I use 0.8mm drill bits. They are perfect for standard paper clips and you can get softer (brass/copper) wire from craft shops in the jewellery making section (also 0.8mm).

You can get thicker wire from the same places for larger miniatures/monsters/vehicles and all you need to do is get the drill bit to match the size of the wire you purchase… normally between 1mm and 1.5mm depending on how heavy the components being pinned are.

For drill bits "Micro Mart" is your friend.

I use 0.024," 0.044", and 0.064" bits for general pinning, though I also use a couple larger bits for heavy pieces, up to 0.084."

Since I play Infinity, I had to go with very tiny bits on a lot of the parts.

Mine are metric.

0.4mm usually. I've had my set for about 12 years now – but every so often a friend will ask me for one – so I'm running low.
