The year is 871 AD and Alfred the Great is beginning his campaign to throw the Vikings out of Wessex.

This is a 6 point SAGA scenario that pits an Anglo-Saxon shield wall against marauding Norsemen on their way to the next village to be plundered. Please check out the AAR and pics at:

I love that debris on the gaming mat- it looks very natural.

Thank you Codsticker……..I use a mix of 2 different colors of flocking and add in some sawdust for the larger particles……then I throw in some small pieces of lichen.

Looks like a good game. As a note, Verizon warned me off from your site, saying McAfee had analyzed it and found viruses.

Hey Jeffrey……thanks for the info…..I don't know of any problems with the blog site at all……but I'll check it out……might be a standard message……I get those all the time for new sites.

Nice, but the Anglo-Saxon player was cheating.
You can't have 16 figure units in Saga.

Madmac6431 Mar 2016 4:24 a.m. PST

Actually…….even though the rules don't cover it…….the SAGA forums all cover combining points and having larger….or smaller units. The drawback to combining points into a unit reduces the number of battle board dice……so there's pros and cons with combining…….with the Anglo-Saxon bonuses for large units and the tendency to play defensive…..it's always a good idea.

My very first Hcon game included combined points into large nits.

You can combine points into large units (which is certainly covered by the rules) – but units must all be 4-12 figures.
The only exception is Athelstan's special ability which lets you have a hearthguard 'officer' with a unit of 12 warriors, for a total of 13.
Units of 16 are right out, I'm afraid, unless you are playing your own version of the rules.
