I'm still very new at this photo posting thing, so sorry about that. Some of the pics are out of order, and I don't have any idea how to write captions with pics. Anyway, I wanted to work my way through a game of OTR, so I threw out a few figures and a little terrain and gave it a go. It took me awhile to get into the groove of how the rules work but, once I figured it out, it went pretty smooth. Go to the bottom of the pics (the first one after my collection pics) to see initial deployment. Sorry everything is so disjointed. Or, I guess, you can start at the end and work your way back to the opening moves. Basically I have two Union divisions pushing down to seize a cross roads and small town. A Reb division has deployed to stop them. The hills and woods are rough terrain. The Union center had some morale failures, and the lead elements were pushed back several times. Things were actually looking good for the Rebs but, eventually, numbers and dice were against them, even though the Rebs did get 2 additional brigades on turn four. Several times the Union scored multiple casualties while the Reb reply was nil. You can't win a game like that. The generals of both sides used their morale points wisely, saving them for keeping units in the line at key points during the battle. Eventually, both Reb batteries were silenced and both of their flanks were turned. The Union brigade on the far left got hung up every time it tried to negotiate difficult terrain. The surviving Confederates voluntarily ran away while they still could. One of the photos (where everyone is lined up side by side; the Union casualties are the two stands on the left) is the butcher's bill -- a very tough day for the Confederates. I gave the Union a rifle battery as a corps asset on turn 3 based on a die roll, and it reached out a touched a few people a couple of times. I forget to double fire in canister range, but that worked in favor of the Rebs more than the Union. flickr.com/photos/79thpa |

Looks like a fun game even if the bad guys won :- ) On To Richmond remains our favourite ACW rules after 30 years. |

I second OTR, very nice rules. Have you tried any of the variants? I really like your roads, are they drybrushed latex? |

No, I haven't tried any variants. I think they are latex. They are some kind of rubbery stuff from Miniature World Maker. I bought a lot of their roads and river pieces at a con many years ago. |

Nice looking game! I have thought about trying either the Naps or 1870 variant. |

Thank you. I will have to get some of those. There is a detailed Napoleonic version called On To Waterloo which I found online bit have yet to try it. |

Do you use the regt OTR variant or the old courier brigade set----and is that blood on the wall? |
79thPA | 18 Apr 2016 11:54 a.m. PST |
I used Extra Crispy's reprint, which is a cleaned up version of the Courier set. The stain is some kind of stuff from when a contractor tried to stop a leak. |
