Hey guys I know this is a bit off topic, but who would you consider as an inspiring general or leader? I want to paint a figure for a dear friend of mine and I'd like someone in history that REALLY inspired people. |

He's the man historians love to hate, but Montgomery had the knack of inspiring soldiers. I knew two veterans who were still very proud to have served under him. One of them had been his driver for a time, so it wasn't just admiration from afar. |

Most non gamers would probably appreciate a figure of Napoleon as it would be immediately recognized You also have a good choice of figures to select from |

I would suggest a figure that would also properly represent wargaming: Marshall Saxe, who, as one historian wrote,"grew so corpulent and diseased that he had to be carried to the battlefield". Now there's a wargamer's general! |

I am really surprised that no one has mentioned the 1 general that did something that we have all wanted to and dreamed about doing . Which is the definition of true inspiration. General Robert Ross!!!! He burned Washington D.C |

A few comments: 1) find some one who has a figure already in production somewhere. 2) find someone who is reasonably recognizable. We all recognize Churchill and Gandhi, but what do Saladin and Zenobia look like? 3) and most importantly, find a quality or ability embodied by your friend, and match that to a recognizable and available historical figure. That may prove difficult. |
