Question for any BfE2 players out there. How do you base your dismounted cavalry? My drilled infantry are 3 figures to a base whereas mounted cavalry are 2 figures to a base. When they dismount to form skirmishers if I stick to two figures per base the unit frontage will be less than a drilled unit which seems wrong. But if I stick 3 figures on a base it it won't match up with the mounted version? I'm thinking of keeping 2 to a base but perhaps reducing the number of hits they can take from 8 to 6. What do other players think? FH |

The assumption is that dismounted cavalry units adopt a 3 stand skirmish line and have the horse-holder stand in a central rear location. So the 3 stands should be 1.5 times the width of a regular imperial close order stand with 2-3 figures on each stand as you like. You can keep the unit at 8 hits/kills. Cheers, Chris |

No worries FH. As an aside, BFE gives guidelines regarding basing and following these will work well. However, do experiment. I shrink or expand my base frontages to reflect the quality of the units. So, while sword and spear natives are generally based on stands twice the width of close order regulars, I sometimes put higher quality units on narrower stands. This allows them to move more easily and concentrate. Similarly, some western trained local recruits can be based on stands a little wider than their "regular" training and formations would indicate. In this case their footprint is larger and more unwieldy. So, using basing results in combat effects without the need for additional rules. Cheers, Chris |
