In 1938 the standard Royal Marines headgear was a blue service dress cap with a red band. This also had a white top attached during summer months (May-Sep). The white top was worn all year-round in hot climates. Fore-and-Aft caps were only worn by officers in Mess Dress. The blue forage cap only appeared in 1942, followed by a khaki version for wear in Battledress (which had been issued from 1939). Cap Comforters, blue berets, green berets, etc, only appeared during WW2, after forage caps. |
