Hi. As far as I have been able to work out so far only the platoon commanders vehicle would have a radio fitted. But where is as well t mounted and where did the corresponding antenna mount?

Thanks

As to where to stick your aerials…I'll leave that to the track-heads :>

Can anyone help? And British/Commenwealth M5, not US M3

Ah, right, a subtle but important difference…

The Motor Pls were issued No.18 sets, which weren't vehicle radios. Motor Coy HQ vehicles and the Scout Pl has vehicle mounted No.19 sets.

I'll tell you a little curiosity Fettster and Starfury. I was talking to a guy a couple of years ago who had been a platoon commander in 1RB, the motor battalion for 22nd Armoured Brigade, in Normandy. He told me that they had no means of communicating by radio with the tanks they were accompanying. As Starfury said they only had the No18 man pack sets (at the platoon level in any case). He told me that the No18 sets couldn't get on the same frequencies as the No19 sets, which I found a little staggering. He said that late in 1944 the 7 Armd Div tanks had been fitted with the infantry handset on the rear hull, in order to allow the foot soldiers to communicate with the tank crew without having to get up onto the turret.
