I have Bulldogs Away but I am not sure the aircraft rules have enough chrome for me. Are there any other rulesets that can be played with 1/700 Frigates, Destroyers and FACs that also have solid rules for the air component?

Just bolt on a set of AirWar:C21, or Clash of Sabres.

I've used both with Shipwreck too, for the aerial component of the games. Works great.

Harpoon on your computer

Mako1122 Mar 2016 7:42 p.m. PST

Nah, minis are far more fun to play with.

If you have 3rd edition of Harpoon, that will work.

Note that if this is for the Australia vs. Indonesia game, you should look for a copy of Harpoon Naval Review 1997. It has the scenario and all the ship and aircraft forms you would need.

Is 1/700 too big for Harpoon though?
I have the 3rd edition and it doesnt seem as bad as what I hear of other edition, so I am open to giving it a go!

1/700 is fine for Harpoon. You should the opposing sides should be on separate tables. They should never get close enough to share the same area. Just plot movements on a map.

What extra chrome would you have liked to see in Bulldogs?

Field Marshal24 Mar 2016 6:51 p.m. PST

On a third and fourth read, Im happy with the rules as is in Bulldogs…..shall go with it…

I happen to be awaiting an order of 1/700 FAC craft from ptdockyard.com

I have both Bulldogs Away! and Shipwreck! and have so far been leaning towards Shipwreck! as Bulldogs seemed to be missing details that would need to be expanded upon during a real match.

Is Bulldogs actually better in playability and speed?
Can anyone compare the two sets of rules?

Mako1125 Mar 2016 5:01 p.m. PST

I've used both for missile boat actions, and they work fine.

Shipwreck has rules/stats for larger vessels, while Bulldogs only deals with small escorts.

Perhaps, David, that's something you could add in to Bulldogs. At least give people some base values/formulae for them to create their own stats for vessels larger than frigates or small DDs, or perhaps some more examples of those.
