A wonderful illustrator of French history and in particular of the age of Napoleon. My 'Guide Napoleon' published in 2005 tells me that his workshop was reconstructed in the Metz museum together with a number of Napoleonic uniforms and other artifacts.

I'm going to be in that part of the world over Easter but checking the museum web site, I can't find any reference to the collection. Does anyone know if it's still there? Or has it disappeared forever like the Napoleonic museum in Antibes?

Having had a reply from the museum in Metz,I can answer my own question. In case anyone else is interested, the collection is no longer on public display and can't be viewed.

A great shame I think but I am still hoping to find some items of 18th Century and Napoleonic history when we visit Strasbourg.

JOB – yes fantastic, and with the museum at Metz, a downer, for years it was claimed that his workshop is in the process of being restored.

He may be not as acurates as Rousselot – but his dwawing and paintings are inspring and full of character.

My favourite though is – Benigni
