I have been out of the loop for a little while. Noticed Team Yankee rule set (just downloaded the novel on Kindle about three weeks ago to read again so weird timing) today. Then looking into the line noticed they have Arab Isralie wars, and Vietnam. Yes it's been awhile since I have played and didn't know Battlefront had put these lines out. Do they play similar to FOW? With a modern twist or are they completely different? Looking at something my seven, soon to be eight, year old might play with me. Of course with support from me. Mostly "chit type" games for me the last 8 years or so. |

They all use the same basic rules system with modifications for tanks, boats, modern weapons, etc. But essentially the same system. |

Yup. There are minor differences but mostly the same IGOUGO, buckets o' dice system. |

Fate of a Nation and Tropic Thunder are identical to Flames of War. But Team Yankee is a different ruleset, with similar core mechanisms, but simplified and streamlined, with much data being supplied by cards for each type of team, allowing much more flexibility for expansion of new kit and nationalities. Phil Yates said its the Flames of War ruleset he would have written back in the day had he had his current experience! The main differences to play are around Fast Air and Aviation, and Air Defences, with an interrupt system for AA fire, and the introduction of fast, non-tactical movement to get into contact. I suspect Team Yankee and any Flames of War V4 will be very similar indeed! |

Faster play, from what I've read for TY, with many games being over in 3 – 4 turns, due to higher lethality. |

For a 7 or 8 year old you might also want to consider Battlefront's and GF9's upcoming new 'Tanks!' game for ease and speed of play: TMP link |
