Has anyone actually bought and painted any of Magister Militum's 3mm pike-&-shot range? More to the point, has anyone published any photos of the results? My Google searches aren't returning anything… |

I too would be interested in seeing painted photos. |

I've got a fair number of the Irregular 2mm ones, and very nice they are too. The 2mm resources page has photos. I think the height of the pike blocks make them work quite well in these micro-scales. No idea what the MM ones look like though. |

Martin I do like the look of the Irregular pike blocks, but the largest one they do AFAIK is still only 12mm wide link and I'd like to fill up an 80mm-wide base with pike and shot in various proportions and arrangements. Strips of 3mm figures can be combined side by side or front to back, but I don't think the Irregular blocks will lend themselves to being butted together. Richard |

I don't think it looks too bad to leave gaps between them. I use a fair few of the combined pike & shot blocks and they look really nice (iirc the 45 figure ones are 20mm wide). Here is my attempt at Edgehill with 2mm blocks: link The elements are 30x15 with two blocks on each, and they are combined onto magnetic movement trays, typically 90x40. So a six element Regiment has 12 blocks (or 480 figures). They are all pretty cheap, why not just order a few from Irregular, and a few from MM and see how you get on? I was inspired when I picked up some huge (80x40) bases second hand with multiple pike and shot blocks arranged in various formations on them which looked fabulous (despite the big gaps in between). |

Hi Doctor Phalanx, I agree with Martin. Combining the Irregular pike and shot blocks into a single unit works, as does using some of the larger blocks with stand alone foot. And it's a great scale for creating a mass effect for big units. Both of the bases below are 60mm x 30mm, leaving plenty of room for a unit identification/ characteristics market.

Thanks for the link and pictures. These do look very good but are more suggestive of a brigade than a single unit. At the moment I'm thinking more of the latter, but this is all very speculative. |

Just to report that someone on the Yahoo 3mm_miniatures group pointed me to his album of ECW photos for which I am most grateful. |

@Martin & Sidney Now that I've seen the 3mm pikemen and what can be done with 2mm, I'm inclining towards the look of the latter. Would it be possible to file the edges of the 2mm blocks so that they could be butted together to create larger blocks? Richard |

Further to my last post, the other mad idea I had was to but the blocks together, fill any gaps with Milliput and sculpt in enough detail to disguise the join. |

I use mixed blocks to represent an infantry battalia at 1:1 scale in 2mm. Pike blocks from the renaissance range shot from the horse and musket range. To be fair it isn't really necessary to hide joins at this scale. |
