Tivo recorded STNG 'Insurrection' for me & I watched it; having never seen it before.

As most of you would know, in the movie Picard & bridge crew mount (surprise!) an insurrection against their own Federation, which is seemingly betraying its own beliefs.

Internal conflict has appeared in STNG, DS9 & Voyager (an element seemingly central to the story….but largely ignored) with the Maquis, the Bajoran resistance & others. But it is never really the heart of the franchise's tales.

It seems to me the ST universe's greatest enemies would be internal: not the Borg or the Dominion but terrorists/freedom fighters (choose your flavour) fighting against the pervasive rule of the Federation.

Such a theme certainly has possibilities & would resonate with today's world & its concerns. ST has a history of pushing the boundaries on such "hot" issues too.

Should I be writing to the owners of ST with this idea?

The actors playing Blake (Gareth Thomas) and Avon (Paul Darrow) disagreed over the actual "goodness" of the crew – Thomas thought they were freedom fighters and thus the good guys, while Darrow thought they were terrorists. This was nicely reflected in their character portrayals.

If I were to cast a vote….I prefer not to resonate with reality where I choose to spend my entertainment dollar….

Doesn't the name have an awful corporate sound, like a marketing department came up with something technical and soulless so as not to offend anyone. I guess it's better than Vulcan Empire.
