VonTed – the concept drawings by Ralph MacQuarrie for vader had a very strong samurai vibe to them – so did the snowtroopers for Empire strikes back. So samurai star wars isn't exactly a new thing. |

I was just going to comment to that effect. Ages ago, after Star Wars came out, I believe I read that Lucas' vision of Darth Vader's "armour" was inspired by the Samurai and he conveyed this to MacQuarrie. |

Yup. I've got the old Sketchbooks they released with the old concept art for the movies. Snowtrooper was a lot more samurai-ish than it turned out to be, too. The Rolling leviathan thing from ep3 was based off an early AT-AT concept, too (was going to be a tank, not walker). |
