Been well over a year since we tried a big Bolt Action game. Last time was the Pacific, this time somewhere on the Eastern Front. 4500 points of Soviets run by Mike Steven and John vs 4500 points of Germans run by Glen, Eli and Coach. Eli's force started at the entrenchment with about 5 feet of wire. Coach started some 30 inches back relaxing in the Russian huts and Glen (who's entire force was mobile) was off table in the R&R section. All the Germans on the table started with a pin marker,to reflect the sudden Soviet bombardment that preempted the assault. Soviet mission was to get a tank and infantry squad off the far end of the table, failing that to hold the majority of the table. For those curious, we allowed all of the Russians to active a unit whenever a red die was pulled and the same for the Germans on a grey die, Kept the game moving along. Played 6 turns before calling the German victory. link

full side I go/you go mechanics are what kept me out of 40k. I might have lumped platoons together per activation rather than squads… or somehow consolidated it to allow for the whole "random initiative" mechanic I love so much to be preserved. But that is a very large and impressive battle either way, and you are a very lucky guy to get to roll dice and push miniatures in any event |

Great stuff. My experiences with BA at this point size have been brilliant (although I play in 15mm and only 1 vs 1 so no need to adapt the dice mechanic to keep everyone interested). |

*D6, were these FOW scale, 15mm miniatures that you used, or the actuall 28mm called for in BA? If they were 28's, the table had to be Enormous just to accomidate the armor. It looks great, I bet it wss a blast to play. As for the BA 'draw from the bag' (to see who goe's next) rule, I love that, no 2 games are the same, it really tosses in some 'you dont know what to expect" tension in every turn. |

We've had several games with 8 players or more and activate as per D6 Junkie except we use a deck of cards – red card each of the allied players deploy one die, black card all the Axis players and there are as many cards for each side as each player has dice. Each player starts the turn with all of their activation dice 'in hand' and is responsible for picking up their dice at the end of the turn. It's worked very well. |
